Taillight Tint

Hello, I was wondering for a while what each tint percentage would look like for when I went to go get my taillights tinted on my 17’ GLC300.. I have a super dark tint on my 21’ GLE53 and didn’t want that on my GLC since it is black and wouldn’t look as good as it does on my GLE since it is white… I was originally going to get 35% on my GLC but then changed my mind and got 20%.. Please see the attached photos below of a google imagine I found of it with 35% and what my car looks like now with 20%.. I also attached what my GLE looks like with the super dark tint if anyone is wondering. I love how it turned out and I’m posting this for anyone else who would want their taillights tinted and wants to know what percentage to do. Hope this helps.

That was a good demonstration of various tints. Thanks for the post.

Looks great indeed, but why would you want to jeopardize safety over looks?

Every time I drive behind a vehicle with tinted taillights, it is definitely more difficult to see the brake lights. At night, or in fog or heavy rain conditions, it must even be worse to spot the vehicle.

If you have a good quality tint, it doesn’t jeopardize the amount of light that comes out whatsoever. As soon as I got my taillights tinted on both cars the first thing I did was check on how bright the brake lights/indicators were and it was exactly the same as when it wasn’t tinted. If you have ceramic and or really good quality tint it doesn’t effect the brightness whatsoever… however there are people who use bad quality tint or they spray them with a “tint” blackout spray paint and it ends up looking awful and not showing the lights. But fortunately I have a guy who can do it well enough that the lights show and aren’t a safety hazard. At night time, they look just as bright as they are without tint.

With that said, …………. WELL DONE! 👍

Guess I only see vehicles with the crappy tint. 😀

I hope I am not the only one who always think
anyone with
a loud muffler,
the darker rear lamp covers,
turned off all lights at night on purpose
should go to a jail anytime soon.
Not just penalty tickets.
So annoying or causing rear end collision.

I don’t think a $65k+ or $110k+ car can relate/compare to old straightpiped civics with modifications 😂 but alright man, you have a great day.

Here is an old thread of mine (I used a medium tint on the tails) - still happy with it even if others think it was too dark.

Maybe not, but blacked out taillights put a $100,000 car in the "straightpiped civics" category. Wannabe cars. Your car doesn't need to compete on that level.

I agree it's unsafe. But I'm the guy who cleans his taillights when I do the windshield during fill-up. More safer more better. More stealthy = less safe.

No one care if immature kids do not use seat belt, don't fix air bags, cracked windshield etc... cuz those harm themselves only.

but darken tail lamps are different story. It doesn't matter with vehicle price. Nothing but selfish.

When rear ended, it's at the rear vehicle driver's fault. Rainy, foggy, sunset etc can make invisible taillamp. No proud at all but shame.

Same as high headlight beam idiots.

well as i said, numerous times in this thread..
the tint is a quality tint, therefore it doesn’t affect the brightness. it is just an aesthetic preference. if you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. but it is not considered “unsafe” because the same amount of light comes out with and without the tint. 😂

That's unlikely. Light transmissibility is what it is, no matter how much they charged you.

Any tint affects the amount of light emitted. You can see it in your pics.

Back in the 90's when this was cool for a minute, we used spray tint in a can. Not sure if the stuff still exists, but you could darken it to your liking by putting another coat on etc. Good thing the stuff came off though, because you were NOT passing the yearly Pennsylvania state safety inspection, and yes, the police would pull you over and ticket you to death. Then clear taillights became popular, and all you needed for them was a colored bulb.

Tinted taillights are straight up trashy and an automatic indicator there's a smooth-brain behind the wheel.

So true.
Also tinted rear reflectors are for the stupid, ignorant and uneducated. It can kill someone who hit the dark vehicle parked on the road side.
