2017 glc 300 button start no longer works

hello

i have read here that a battery thats is starting to go bad will causes the start/stop from working. my wife just told me that her push button starter on her 2017 glc 300 no longer works. can this be cause by a failing battery as well?

thanks

GLC300, C300
Seems like my wife's 17 C300 pops up a low battery warning. I've had to pull the button out and use the key once when it was totally dead.

More likely a failing key coin battery.

ok, so i removed the old battery and checked voltage and it was 3.02 v. seems ok but let me put a new battery anyway. new battery was 3.23v. sure enough, button starter now working again.

what fooled me was the door lock and unlock sensors still worked so i thought battery was fine...nope!!

thanks!!

Good feedback.
I know there are sensors scattered throughout the car, determining if the key is inside or outside.

I have also seen the warning "place your key in the designated position" to start, on our GLE (by cupholder), after unlocking doors.
Making me think that more juice (or encryption) is needed for starting than for unlocking.
