MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S vs. CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT LX25

Any recommendations on either tire?
MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S vs. CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT LX25. 235/60-18 H. (exclude run-flats)
We do ski and camp, ~10% of yearly driving. The rest is street/hwy.
For a US 2020 GLC300 4Matic.
Thank you

Michelin CrossClimate 2 instead of those, see below tiretrack tests. It is an all weather tire with 3 peak mountain and snowflake (3PMSF).

I had the Continental Crosscontact installed on my W164 ML550 4Matic.

I went back to Americas Tire and had them take the tires back as in my opinion they are junk. The ML was swirving at higher speeds on the freeway and felt really unsafe. I usually ALWAYS purchase Michelins and never had any bad experience with these tires. But, I thought I would give the Conti’s a try. Well, live and learn, never again!!!!!!!

Swapped to Michelin Latitudes and the vehicle is stable and rides as it should!

Recently installed the Michelin Defenders on my wife’s GLC300 4Matic and have nothing but good things to say about these tires.

So for me the choice is easy, ……… MICHELIN!

2020 GLC300 touring version (but I miss my '93 300SE W140 tank)
The original Continentals on our ‘20 GLC300 lasted only 30k miles (I drive like the old man I am). I replaced two of them with Michelin Defender LTX and I was in tire heaven: quiet, comfy, big car ride at 32psi. I tried to replace my last Contis with LTX but Discount Tire told me they were out of production so I went with Defender 2s. 80,000 vs 70,000 mile warranty so I don’t feel too bad. If I had had my druthers, I think the LTX is the best tire I’ve ever experienced but it was not to be.

Personally Im very happy with Michelin, very nice soft ride.
We do ski trips too, Big Sky or Jackson Hole, and locals, but for winter I put Bridgestone Blizzak Winter.

I've heard a lot of good comments on Conti Crossclimate but Im not so sure how compound can perform in hot and cold the same, apparently new technologies.

All good responses. I've been a Michelin man mostly, so Defender LTX sounds like the plan.

This is my 4th set of Michelin defender LTX on three of our vehicles. Presently on our GLC. Great tire, great in the rain, incredible tread wear, quiet. We are in Florida and its a perfect fit. Cant comment on cold or snow performance. I have Michelins on all my cars, havent had a bad tire or warranty in over 20 years.

How has the tire wear been and how many miles have you put on with the lower pressure?

I always keep pressure lower on all cars, and never notice any unusual wear.
Also, I don't keep tires older than four years regardless of the miles, but usually I put 30K miles +/- on them in that time frame.
What I noticed, especially with GLC ride quality is much more like Mercedes. (ML and GLE not that noticeable)

I run 36 psi and have very good wear. The ride is good and compliant as the defender has a soft sidewall.

Same here, running 36 PSI and no complaints about the ride.

And why 36 vs 32 recommended?
What state do you leave? As an example FL roads are much more smoother vs WA

So here's the latest on Tires recommendations: (still dithering). Looking for smooth, soft ride, good mileage. I do have a mountain home; use ~30ish days during winter ski season, but mostly highway driving in Southern California (don't disparage me for being a Californian. I cant stand the people or the government too lol. But it's a beautiful state).2020 300GLC 4MATIC California car, 235/60 18H rating

What will it be...??????
  • MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S - seems like you guys are in favor. But hard to get. And the size is a 235/60 106T designation. Is the T speed max of 116mph not safe enough when OEM was an H rating 130mph?
  • MICHELIN DEFENDER2. $238. Tire rack
  • MICHELIN CrossClimate2 SUV tire rack $248. - hearing both good and bad. I heard they're soft and mileage tanks. Check out reviews on the Michelin USA official site. Pretty interesting. https://www.michelinman.com/auto/tir...-crossclimate2
  • CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT LX25 $222. tire rack high rating?
  • Also just got this from TireRack customer service CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS. $238. Not sure, seems like TR is trying to promote them for Cont.

DWS 06 Plus is UHP A/S tire comparable to Michelin PS4 A/S equivalent. Both tires will be great for S California. They are harder tires similar to summer tires, but they are still good for snow. Crossclimate 2 will be better in snow and it is a softer tire comparable Michelin Alpin 5 winter tires. Crossclimate2 is a three peak mountain snowflake tire, but still you can drive them during summer in comparison to winter tires.

Important aspect of all tires for me is the stopping distance. Summary of stopping distances from tirerack tests using the same car:

Does anyone have any experience with Nokian One's?

Found a great deal at "Discount Tire" for $160 each (for 235/60R 18's) and it comes with 80,000 miles life. I think I will go with them, hope they come up as good. Not much information online but seems like people are happy with them.

You can bring a horse to water...but you cant make him drink!!

I dont know why people ask for experienced advice....and then go totally around it???

There is no substitute for Michelin. There are some good tires...but Michelin solves all issues and such an easy choice for great and no issues. I stopped playing years ago when a tire expert told me Michelin is their go to when they are having issues and that he has never seen a bad Michelin. Thats all he had on his cars. Made my life easy....which michelin tire suits me?? Period. Every car we own has Michelin but one.

Can’t agree more with you, VERY WELL SAID!!!!

Same for me, I am done playing and had bad experiences with Continental on my ML550, NEVER had an issue with Michelin.
My daughters E350 Coupe is in need of new shoes, has currently Continental tires installed which are done. After our 2 week family vacation, Michelin Pilot Sport tires will go on it.

We as well have only Michelins on all cars but one, the GMC Yukon is running on BF GOODRICH All-Terrains.
