GLC 300
gas cap problem
I have a 2017 Mercedes GLC 300. The lanyard/string that is attached to the gas cap broke off from the metal gas cover. The Mercedes dealer said I need to get a new gas cap with attached lanyard that will cost $150. He said it was easy for me to attach it to the gas cover myself.
Do I have to get the official Mercedes part (gas cap and lanyard) or can I get a generic one that costs a lot less?

Not sure how much are you willing to pay, but here is OEM part for around $50, ebay might have it cheaper. Bad cup might trigger CEL

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but if it’s only a broken lanyard on the gas cap why do you need to replace the cap? The lanyard is only to prevent you from accidentally losing the cap, it shouldn’t affect the sealing of the gas cap.
