Engine temperature

2021 GLC300 gas. I need to drive it some more but just today I went to the engine screen and found my engine temperature at the moment was like 100 degrees. I had driven about 10 miles and was in the post office maybe 15-20 minutes. After leaving there I switched that screen on the dash screen. The gauge in the dash was around dead center. I'll keep watching it as I drive it in the coming days. I know it is a 4 cylinder. But should it take like 10+ miles to get up to around 135 degrees? Seems engines today like to run around 195 degrees. It slowly went up but never went past around 135 degrees or so. It is around 40 degrees outside today.

Thanks
Rodney

I Googled it and I get this:

A normal engine temperature for a 2021 GLC 300 is typically around 195°F to 220°F (or roughly in the middle of the temperature gauge on your dashboard),

According to that mine is OK. When you go to the engine screen on the center touch screen why does mine say engine temperature around 130 degrees? Is that a different sensor reading for something else?

Thanks
Rodney

One is coolant temperature and the other is actual engine oil temperature?

This. The one in the centre dash Vehicle Information: Engine, is the oil temperature reading. I live in a hot dry climate, so at cold start mine starts at around 30’C (90’F-ish) and then rises to 94’C (200’F) at operating speeds. On a long distance interstate drive, on a reallly hot day, the max temp I saw mine reach was 107’C (225’F).

The driver dash display under the rpm meter is the coolant temperature indicator. Always stays at the middle around 90’C for me.

You will likely need a scan tool plugged in to the OBD port to see the live engine temperature reading otherwise.

as OP’s ambient temp is around 40’F (4’C) an oil temperature reading of 130’F seems reasonable. A cool running engine is a good thing, as long as your motor oil has good flow in colder climes.

Hopefully OP post the images so we can verify.

I set my cluster to display both engine oil and transmission temps. The the engine oil one has a tiny thermometer, and the tranny one has a tiny gear next to the reading.
Oops I realized this display is on my GLE. Have to check the GLC.

Here's my GLE display, so you can see the difference between oil and tranny temp icons.

It is no doubt the oil temperature. It is on the same screen as the oil pressure. But I wasn't sure if it was the oil temperature or engine coolant temperature. They don't specify. It's the oil temperature. I panicked because we're driving to Denver in a few days and I didn't wanna drive all that way with a bad thermostat and a cold engine. I should have researched it instead of posting. We're taking the SUV because my wife just had a double bypass several weeks ago. It is the most comfortable ride we have at the moment. I have 2 trucks we have been driving there. Mostly my Sierra pulling a trailer moving things. My 2006 S500 4Matic is in Denver. They're both about the same comfort wise. But the SUV has more interior space. We bought a house there and hope to move there this summer after our house in Milwaukee sells.

Thanks

Rather than starting a new thread... I am seeing the same thing on my 2021, a discrepancy between the engine temp displayed on the screen in front of the driver and the temp displayed on the engine information screen. Both are clearly marked as water temperature, not oil temperature. The one in front of the driver will be in the middle of the dial, maybe a little higher, and the one in engine display will have barely moved. Are they both fed by the same sensor?

Here are some pictures:

Are both these gauges measuring engine temp? If so, why the apparent discrepancy?

The transmission temperature is shown in the second image.
