I had an annoying squeak in the back of my car. Mostly when 1 wheel was going over a bump, especially in reverse. (i.e., pulling out of driveway on an angle)
Mechanic finally traced it to a bad bushing in the subframe. $2k repair. Mostly labour. He said it was nearly as cheap to replace the entire subframe ($700) as it would be to buy the bushing set and have all 4 pressed in.
Just an FYI if you ever run into a similar difficult-to-diagnose squeak.
dang it looks like i could have saved about $550 if i'd done the same research, and replaced just the failed bushing.
But i still would have wanted to replace all the bushings, under the principle of "while we're in here, let's replace these other parts that could also fail soon". So in the end it was close to a wash I think.
Hopefully helps anyone else who has the same problem in the future.
