Angry 2018 GLC300- dealer says new engine required for failed engine bearings, Help?!

My 2018 GLC 300 4matic has 44,500 miles. A few weeks ago the engine started misfiring/shuddering when pressing on the gas and I immediately took it to the dealership. Diagnosis was the spark plugs. My car was coming up on routine service so they performed the routine service and replaced all the spark plugs. Picked up the car and when driving I was hearing a slight rattling as if it was out of tune. I assumed it had to do with the replacement of the plugs. Took the car back to the dealer and was now informed that the "engine rod bearings have failed internally". The fix is a NEW engine for 20K??

The service director at the dealer suggest I contact MB Consumer affairs and provided me the number to initiate a case. I can't afford to spend 20K on a new engine.
Does anyone know of anyone who has successfully dealt with anything like this? Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't 20k just about a total loss for your 2018 GLC300? Check w/your insurance company!

Very sorry to hear about the situation. Hopefully you find an agreeable outcome.

M274-engined vehicles should be entirely avoided. This thread is the latest of many similar stories on this site.

A quick look doesn't seem that car insurance would cover this even though it's not a normal wear and tear type of repair.

Sorry to hear but wrong forum. This is for the new GLC (X254) not your X253.
