Is this on an EV? I'm guessing it has to do with the pedestrian warning system that makes noise like a real car so that people look up from their phones when crossing the street.

I thought about it but I believe OP has a GLC 300 X254 so the mild-hybrid meaning it can't be driven on pure electric mode. Hence why I thought it was just pedestrian detection to avoid a collision.

I figured it out. Silly of you disable this you have to see this.

Thanks for posting that, so it alerts you if you left your child in the rear? That is a nice feature to have, why was it disabled? Like all assistance systems though, I wouldn't rely on it, it is a good reminder but always double check if there is a child at the back.

This is why I always lock my car. I don't want anyone dumping a kid in my backseat.

I like your sense of humour, so we can conclude you don't have your own child sitting in the vehicle anytime? I see, I understand now.

I recall the couple of incidents that made national news -- people who pleaded innocent to leaving their small children in the back seat all day. I'm no more credulous than the juries who convicted them. Awfully nice of car companies to provide parents an alert for when their business and social lives overwhelm their family lives. Maybe a smartphone app that pops up the kid's picture every 5 minutes with a wailing soundtrack is in order.

You can't disable that noise and if you unplug the external speaker it'll pop a warning up every time you get in your car.

I have this icon on my EQE SUV screen all the time too. It kept thinking my groceries were occupants.

Actually, I think you guys might have this reversed. The icon shown by the OP is telling you that the warning that tells you a bag of groceries or a kid or a dog is on the back seat is not activated. I, for one, do not like it. It should be an icon that tells you the warning is on (is activated). I don’t have any kids anymore and I don’t have a dog anymore so I have it turned off but the icon is worthlessly on all the time I am driving telling me the warning not activated. Just another bothersome “nanny” feature.
