New glc300 coupe user. A question for the DIRECT SELECT lever

Hi all

What would happen if I push the lever up(R) during driving? I'm too used to use righthand side lever for windshield wipers in other cars.

Thanks

nothing happens if at a certain speed, if you notice, there are arrows where the gears are. At a certain speed, the arrows disappear which meets the car does not meet the right conditions to shift to that gear.

notice the arrow where the Neutral gear is? https://i.ytimg.com/vi/0ACUg9eLnbo/m..._ze30CAR4FO_-w

That means, at that speed, you can only shift to neutral. any attempts to shift to other gears from Drive such as Park, Reverse is not possible. When in Drive, you will see the arrows appear again, when below a certain speed, some gears are also selectable, vehicle doesn't have to be completely stationary for those specific cases.

FWIW, these arrows don't seem to be showing anymore in newer instrument clusters. Below is a pic from my car at a standstill in M1. There's only an arrow next to P when the speed is low enough to put it in P, but there are no arrows next to N or R. The point is still valid, though. The transmission won't let you destroy it.
