MBUX 2.6.1 update

Just did the update and I’m delighted to report that the quirky cruise control now responds
to the buttons and touch controls properly. 😀

Good to hear an mbux update fixed that.

Just received my 2.6.1 update today. I just followed the directions that popped up on the screen, took a little over half an hour - no problems, easy peasy.

5.14.2025: 2024 GLC 300 USA / Downloaded and installed the 2.6 update inside the vehicle 2 days ago. Supposed to add the "Sound Drive" feature. System screen says the update installed properly.

However, I see no difference....with anything. Not with the MBux display, or on my Mercedes Android App. No "Sound Drive" in the Entertainment menu in the app, and nothing in the sound system settings in the car.

Pretty disappointing, considering the last vehicle-related update was almost a year ago, in late May 2024. :-(

Agreed. Updated 2022 and 2023 w206s to MBUX 2.6.1 last week. 22 has basic sound system and 23 has amg line and burmester – sound drive is unavailable on both. You can see if you're eligible on the digital extras section in the app or vehicle. If it's not there, it's not supported.

One new feature I've noticed is that the ETA and miles left are now displayed in the MBUX interface when navigating with carplay. This was previously missing from both cars and was only available on my GLC350e. Both cars also now provide car-to-x notifications about potholes etc when driving. This has been enabled on both cars for years in digital extras, but only now has it begun to actually work.

23 also received a new digital extra, traffic sign assist, to purchase from the Mercedes Me store.

That is disappointing, people kept talking about sound drive, it was a very hyped up feature.

My MBUX 2.6.1 update arrived via a cell connection. Download required about 15 minutes.
Installation required about 10 minutes. When you start the installation, you be instructed
to exit the car, then lock it. Once those steps are accomplished, the installation proceeds.
During that time, the car will lock you out.

Mine arrived for my 2024 GLC300 last evening as I pulled into the garage with the Wednesday pizza special. Had to exit the car and look the door with the key fob. Saw an acknowledgment through the driver's window. Opened the hatch to retrieve the pizza and the download kept going. Got a notice via the app that the download was installed successfully. Didn't go out today so no idea what changes I may notice.

Can you like trick it and stay in the vehicle?

All you have to do is press and hold the final install button then lock the car with your keys like it tells you too. It also warns you that the interior motion and tow away alarm are disabled.

You should have no problem locking yourself in the car and sitting in it while it updates. However, the screens go black and don't show any progress. If you open the car or interact with it before install is complete (I got a notification from the MM app when it was done), the install will cancel and you'll have to start over.

The updates are staggered. I saw people posting their 2.6.1 updates a few months ago on the forums. I received it 2 months after I saw the posts. This has been the case for me with the 2.4 MBUX and door module updates as well.

Maybe sit in the back seat?

Meanwhile, the BMW folks must have reason a for wanting people out of the car
during installation. In other words, watch, but don’t touch.

I see, someone try it I am curious as when the update is being installed lights will flash, there will be lots of sounds, ASMR experience. Curiosity killed the cat after all.

Yes it is uncertain what state gets it first or if it is usually not consistent for each update, randomly pulling out of a hat.

Is there a particular reason why it doesn't recommend you to stay in the vehicle, other than maybe it can be boring and why would it have to interrupt it when you open the doors?

As a retired electronics technician who was once Apple certified, my guess is that
they do not want customers poking buttons during the installation. Apple was big
about this during firmware upgrades, warning that interferring could “brick” the
computer.

I see, if the computer disabled all the buttons during the update, it won't had affected it right? I understand on a phone, you hold the power button to force it off as there is a software and hardware component of that button, so when the phone freezes, software won't prevent it from restarting or shutting off. I guess computers have that idea first, in a car, what I can only think of is the ignition start button.

2025 GLC SUV 4Matic AMG package
Quick question, so is this MBUX 2.6.1 newer than the 3.2.1 update that came out a few months ago or a newer one? I am confused on the numbering system, it was my understanding that the higher the number of the update, the newer it was for most things, is this not the case with MBUX systems? I received the 3.2.1 update about 2 months ago, so I am curious if the 2.6.1 is something I will receive or not now for my 2025 GLC 300? Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

2024 GLC300
I installed update to my 2024 GLC300 yesterday and noticed that when apple carplay navigation app (tried both google map and apple map) announces navigation instructions ( e.g. make a right turn in 500 feet), it no longer mute or lower the volume of radio played by MBUX. Basically two outputs (navigation and radio) play at equal volume at the same time, which makes it hard to hear navigation instructions clearly.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

The pre 2025 model year X254 has MBUX 2.0 running so it will only get MBUX 2.x updates, the 2025 model year and beyond X254 has MBUX 3.0 running so it will only get MBUX 3.x updates.

So in short, no, you will not get the 2.6.1 update because you have MBUX 3.0
