I have been trying for over a month to add the $200 AMG Night package to a car that is not slated to be built until February 2018. A lot of goodwill easily earned. Clumsy. The way Mercedes sells cars appears ripe for disruption.

 

So I guess our orders are locked. Good thing I liked my original spec

 

My dealer is still telling me he has no allocation or build dates. I am wondering if they gave out the 10% discount because maybe having an order on the books would get them an allocation. Perhaps as a small dealer, they don't get much AMG allocations.

 

My SA confirmed my order is still slated for Jan build. I hope nothing has changed since he confirmed about a week ago.

 

I contacted my contact at MB USA about the GLC launch timing and the fact that my dealer doesn't have any allocation or dates yet. This was the response:

 

Yikes. Not good at all. I feel fortunate to have at least an allocation

Okay but two questions:
1) are these configurable?
2) what sort of discount can you give given that my current dealer has given me in writing 10% off?

 

They are not configurable anymore... I don't see a single configurable one left in the US (at least when I glanced at the coupe 63s)

I am honestly not sure yet what I will be pricing them at, although I honestly don't believe I'll be able to match 10% off my 1st 63's... but maybe if they are here a couple months ? Not really sure what the market will be like on these cars or in February/March. Thats an honest answer... normally I'd have sent a PM, but want to be transparent

 

You got to be kidding me WTH!!! My GLC43 sticker price was exactly $10,000 less. I wish I had the opportunity to wait for the GLC63

Do we get GLC63S Coupe or GLC63 Coupe only in the US? At AMG Private Lounge AMG said that we will get GLC63 only, while ordering guide shows both models..

 

States get the GLC63S Coupe with the 500+hp as a couple of members have those on order already. States wont see the GLC63 "S" trim in the SUV. Not sure what the reasoning is behind that.

 

Both these have 997 (driver's assistance/autonomous features) with price not on file, expect the MSRP to jump by 2-4k on these...

My order has 997 specified as well, and though it is priced on the DOG, there is nothing in netstar on this.

 

Interesting. Send me a PM on the SUV - would want to know involvement to remove running boards. Otherwise, optioned just like I like (selenite, diamond white, or black exterior for the GLCs).

This is the current MSRP, but as mentioned in the thread a few items have not been added to the MSRP which is in the order guide...

I would assume add $300 for 521 night package, $2250 for the 997 package... the wheels (RWB) may be $500? I'm not sure..about the rest...some are no cost options like the headliner

I can reserve either if anyone likes and keep you abreast of the items as they populate pricing

I feel the same way.

The message from Mercedes that I posted the other day seems to imply they are having some internal discussions about the launch timing. I wonder if they have the same concern, and are looking into whether to just launch it in the spring as a 2019. That would be the best answer at this point in my opinion.

 

Now the question is, if they wait a bit longer and come out as 2019 models are they going to have the updated dash; Digital Display and bigger Infotainment screen with both android and apple car play?

 

I would put money on the answer being "no." Based on past history the facelift for every individual model has always come four years after the debut, so I believe the way it would work is that in 2019 the regular 2020 models will get the facelift updates, while the GLC43 will be up in 2020 for MY 2021 and the GLC63 models will get updates in 2021 for MY 2022. That said, in 2022 it should be time for the new GLC models to come out, so it's possible the 2020 MY GLCs will all get the facelift. I think that's the most likely scenario.

 

While that is true, I think there are a number of factors which may favor an early facelift in the case of the GLC:
1) The GLC is the first time that the SUV shares the same dashboard design and technology platform as the C-Class sedan. The C facelift will be done for the 2019 model year. So there would be reduced complexity in cutting over to the new nav system and instrument cluster for both models.
2) Mercedes has been struggling with implementing Apple CarPlay on the C and GLC for a several years. They promised this feature and spent a lot of time on it, only to conclude it is not feasible on the current COMAND system. They also recognize this as a competitive disadvantage as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration is currently the number one technology feature car buyers are enquiring about (I'm not kidding you can google the market research on this).
3) BMW has just launched the revised X3 and the motoring press is hailing it as the best car in its class. The reviews say that the interior is best in class with high quality materials, a wide range of leather colors, open pore wood, and a 10 inch navigation screen which is the largest in the class. They also say it is leading the pack in terms of handling and ride quality.

If I was Mercedes I would respond immediately and one up them. After all, it's not like they are still developing the update. We saw that the new interior and technology package is ready to go. It was on display in Frankfurt.

 

I can see where you're coming from, but Mercedes is just traditionally slow in moving on this stuff. The fastest change I've ever seen so far was when they switched the C450 to the C43 after one model year and then gave it the 9-speed automatic. Previously they would leave the old engines sitting in their cars forever while BMW, etc. moved ahead. The GLC is still selling well despite the lack of these updates, so I'm skeptical they're going to respond so quickly. Rather, they'd let the 2019 C-Class carry these new updates at its facelift since it has traditionally debuted some new tech as a baby s-class, and then the GLC is up the year after.

Presuming you are correct though, what is your prediction? Early facelift in 2018 for the 2019 MY?

P.S. I've read some reviews of the new X3 but none have been rave reviews or anything. I still think it looks incredibly ugly from the side and rear.

 

I'd say they will release GLC63 in Q2 of 2018 with the updated facelift and since it wasn't available as MY2017 and MY2018 there should be no problem introducing a "brand new car" with the all updates as MY2019. We'll see

P.S. All BMW are ugly and outdated by 15+ years, sorry.

 

i think everyone would agree that we would wait later in 2018 to have the GLC with the updated interior and tech. i am just skeptical that MB would move away from what has already been presented at the NY auto show for the GLC and what is currently available on the global AMG website.
