ModalWorks Intake GLC 63 Review
ModalWorks
First off, the ModalWorks team has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Fast shipping (even during these times), well packaged, and highly responsive through email.
Install
It took me a little less than an hour to install, but that was taking my time with no instructions yet, but will really take no more than 30 minutes. Very similar to the BMS intake install, but it reuses the OEM standoffs as attachments, so no parts to save for later or risk losing in case you want to revert back to stock. They really spent some time making this intake fit just right. Once the final dimensions for the heat shields are worked out, this unit should fit very nicely in the engine bay. The OEM hood scoop tubes are utilized, maximizing the amount of cold air.
First Drive Impressions
On the first dive out, greatly improved throttle response was the first thing I noticed, very snappy, even at low cruising speeds. And yes, the blow-off and turbo spool is much more audible now. I'm not a huge fan of loud blow-off wooshes, but since the OEM hoses remain attached to the tubes, it's louder, but not annoyingly loud. Some may want it a bit louder, but for those that are turned off by it, no need to worry on this unit, i think it's just right. It adds the right sounds to the already fantastic AMG exhaust note.
You'll see on the website they have dyno results of over 50whp. I can't back that exact number from my butt dyno, but the power increase is definitely there, especially from 5K to redline where the M177 really needs it. I'm currently running a Renntech ECU+ tune, and like most stage 1 tunes, they fall flat after 5500 rpm, this intake makes it pull harder now. Haven't had the chance to get any Dragy yet, but when i can I'll definitely report back on this thread.
Overall
I really wanted to stay away from an aftermarket intake as I didn't want to lose the awesome OEM AMG look in the engine bay. There are some strong M177 builds out there using the stock boxes with high flow filters. After the short time I spent with this intake, I don't really care about that anymore, I'd miss the added power and sounds too much. Best of all, the final unit is only going to get better with the carbon tubes and improved heat shield design. I think it's fairly priced against all current intake offerings, not the cheapest, but with what you get it's the best bang for buck, especially if you can grab their pre-order offer.

true the m177 dies out up top due to restriction of airflow with the stock airboxes.
the Weistec one has been good to me. Great turbo noise and response is noticeable. The quality is meh... not what you’d expect from them.
for the price this sounds appetizing.
