GLC43 Coupe vs. GLC43 (non-coupe)

Besides the looks, is there anything else that would make you pick one or the other? I personally don't even know if one looks better than the other. They both look very nice and I would be happy with either. Anyone cross shop these? Thanks!

PS I have a 2017 C43 btw and love the car but it really wasn't all that enjoyable on the crappy roads in Michigan. Replaced two tires and rims due to potholes. I think the SUV version of my car may solve my only qualm about it.

Personally, I went with the OG look over the coupe because the coupe only comes with the sunroof. You cant do the full-on panorama roof with the coupe, which for me was a deal-breaker. I really love that panorama roof and how it essentially goes the entire length of the seated areas of the vehicle.

Otherwise, about the only other thing I preferred about the OG over the coupe was the limited rear window visibility, and the height of the trunk. OG has a wider opening, and can be lowered while the coupe cannot.

I'm picking up a 2020 GLC 43 SUV next week in Australia. I do like the more aggressive aesthetics of the GLC 43 coupe, but a few reasons why I picked the SUV over it:

1. Cost - about $10k AUD more for the coupe version;
2. As noted by the poster above, the coupe does not have a panoramic sunroof;
3. Lack of towbar option (I believe at least in Australia, not sure of other markets);
4. Vision - while I haven't sat in the coupe, the styling suggests you'll sacrifice some rear visibility - how much of an issue (if any) this will be is subjective;
5. Practicality - reduced boot space and rear passenger comfort; and
6. Style - in my opinion, a coupe-shaped SUV suggests you don't really know what you want in a car - if I want a coupe, I'd get the C43. I want an SUV (for all the benefits that body shape brings) so why get a 'half-half' coupe version!

Obviously there are a lot of people who like these coupe shaped SUVs otherwise manufacturers wouldn't bother with them!

EASY -- seen enough suv on the road with similar styling PLUS I still have 2013 GLK which was loaded back then so didn't want to upgrade to GLC styling...I like the GLK styling better than GLC.

Been eyeing the X4 styling since it came out, then GLE Coupe and then saw the new upgraded GLC 43 Coupe with everything loaded, time for a change.

One has more trunk/back-seat headroom than the other.

But back to the looks, one looks normal and the other looks like this \/ ... Audi and Porsche can pull off the "Coupe" SUV way better than MB and BMW

Ex-C450 (before renamed to C43) owner here. Pick the GLC43 SUV and ride so much better. I do get reminded on fast corners that it's no longer a fast nimble sedan but it's a good trade off.

As for SUV vs Coupe, since I have never jump on the non-2 door coupe craze and there is something didn't look right to me with MB's SUV coupes, I really didn't bother.

Also, a reminder as you are also coming from W205, the GLC's trunk isn't as deep but wider. But where in the C I used to able to fit 3 shopping bins and 2-3 bags. Now 2 of those bag has to go vertical on top of bins with GLC and privacy cover retracted. Never had i both had more AND less space at the same time, it's a weird feeling. So having a sloped roof may eat into that vertical storage some more.

I have a GLC43 Coupe on order due for delivery in June (In Australia). Dealer is fitting a “Mercedes” towbar - interested in your info on lack of towbar option. What were you told?

Regarding the coupe, I am pretty sure the dealer told me it was only the GLC 63S coupe that is incompatible with towbars. I think the 43 coupe can have a towbar fitted, but not 100% sure.

Separately, I was told a week out from handover that a new service bulletin was released by MB confirming that the wiring harness for the towbar is not compatible with the facelift vehicle (throws up errors/codes). Unfortunately, that means I have to forgo the towbar until they fix that issue. Dealer said that could take a few months! Hopefully it will be sorted before your delivery in June.

Note in Australia we can't use the folding towbar from factory option as I believe it is not ADR compliant, so it is just the usual bolt-on dealer fitted option. I usually go with aftermarket towbars like Hayman Reese but given the errors associated with the wiring harness on the dealer approved towbar I don't think I would even consider third party options now.

It’s straight from the factory, accessory code 550 Trailer Hitch $800.00 Canadian dollars.

I did not spec out this car on my own it was appointed by the dealer, it just happened to meet most of my criteria, so I took it.

your diffuser will change if the tow is included, it loses a couple of the middle fins but I need to tow, so it’s a small sacrifice and bear in mind it’s a 1 inch, so the capacity for towing is not high, but I only need it for a small utility trailer and this meets my needs, towing capacity is 1588 kg according to the web site, class II hitch.

.

If you properly lower the Coupe, they look awesome vs looking like all the million SUVs roaming the streets.

Here is mine dropped, it has a very unique look and gets more compliments than any car I have ever owned.

I use Stealth Hitches on all my cars. Zero signs of having a hitch on your car until you need it. 10 seconds to pop the receiver on and off.

I prefer the looks of the SUV better. Also I do not understand the "coupe" designation. When I was growing up coupes = 2 doors.

I may of considered the SUV if it came in a 'S" version as MB has done a good job of making the 63 SUV look more aggressive than the regular GLC.

Coupe` just means a crossover nowadays...lol...Almost everyone that comes across my car say the exact same two sentences. 1. That is an awesome car. 2.What the heck is it?

It has been even more awesome and confusing after debadging it.

I typically prefer the SUV looks for the GLC, but when it looks like P-Dawg's, it becomes a different story. The coupe's also look a bit better in person vs pics even though I lean SUV in most cases.

We chose regular suv over coupe due to trunk size and rear headroom. Otherwise we thought it looked nice. Pdawgs car a few posts up looks amazing.

I don't think the technical differences are enough to justify a decision. Its a storage and looks decision. Everyone is unique but i don't think there is a better looking SUV on the road than a 63 SUV after a drop. The coupes do not look good at all in my opinion and are not going to age well. I share the sentiment with the X6 as well.

Question

I really struggle with the value proposition for the coupe, I agree it certainly looks better than the SUV but unless you need to tow something and you have children that will remain under 1.5m tall for the period that you intend to keep the vehicle, then why wouldn't you stick with a C43? There is no significant utility to the GLC coupe over the C43 unless you want to fit a tow bar and you either dont use the back seats. The C43 looks better and is a better drive

"Coupe" is always more expensive in the US than a regular one. I believe in other countries as well... why else would a 2 door coupe more expensive than a 4 door sedan?

Look is subjective for sure -- C43 looks less aggressive than the GLC 43 Coupe for me.
