Will GLC63 2021 will have the same V8 engine?

Hi Guys,

I hear rumors that 2021 AMG C63 will use 500hp+ V4 hybrid..
I want to postpone buying AMG GLC63 till next year.. but I will rather buy this year if next year GLC will be on some funky engine..

Does anybody knows anything about it?

Thank you,
Krystian

I think there's been a lot of confusion around this. I'm pretty confident the 2021 GLC 63 will continue to use the existing V8.

As for the C63, RBR's recent video has thrown this all up in the air again, but from what I've read is that people are misinterpreting what MB/AMG is saying. The next gen engine for the 63's will NOT be a 4-hybrid, but will continue to be an 8 (prob hybrid), but based on the new 4 engine (M139). That's where the confusion seems to come in and how things were translated at the time this rumor all started. I could certainly be wrong, especially with more strict EU regs, but that seems to be the word...the V8 will continue.

I was just talking with my MB salesman/AMG specialist about that yesterday. He said he's thinks the next version will be a 4 cylinder with a powerful electric motor. It will be faster than the current ones and compete with the Teslas in 0-60. (Which is why he said they were going this way)
I asked what about the sound. I said the 6's sound good and the 8's sound wonderful. (Hell, we are Americans that grew up in the 60's) His thought was that people will come for the speed.
He is basing all of this off the MB/Aston Martin relationship with the motors and did not know for sure if it was changing in 21 or 22, but he said it was most likely going to happen soon.
I asked him to let me know is he finds out better which year it will be. I would like to buy the last year of the V8 and put it up as an investment.
He also said that another reason for going away from the V8 was the strigent noise laws in Europe.
Who knows. I wish they had kept the 10's and 12's in F1 but no-one cares for my opinion.
My wife actually brought up F1 and the lack of noise since they have gone away from even V8's and how much that subtracts from the cars and the show.

In Texas we just cut the muffler off and run straight pipes. It is still quieter than a Mustang.

We'll see, but I'll stick with my prediction of a V8 for the GLC63 in 2021. Past that and whenever the next GLC model change comes, I would say it will be the crap 4-hybrid, IF the C63 goes that route. We should know fairly soon on the GLC, as Dealer Order Guides for 2021's should be out within the next month, if they stick to the same schedule as in the past.

The current x253 GLC is expected to last thru 2021 model year as is for North America.

W206 C class is debuting this fall as 2021 in Europe. AMGs to follow in 2022. North America is probably a year behind this schedule.

With W206, it's expect to follow engine line up of A and B classes. A standard 2L turbo. A more potent 2L to be called C43/45. Then the 48V 2L Hybrid that will become C63.

Now GLC is just a copy of C in SUV form. So keep an eye on C class release and you will see what's coming for GLC a year later.

Why?

MB is currently not profitable due to European emission fines. And that's before COVID took 2 selling/manufacturing months from them.

All engines will be downsided or electrified to avoid fines.

TLDR, 2021 is probably the last model year C and GLC63 will have a V8 given their high sales volumes and MB tries to avoid $3B euros in fines.

Now everything is still rumor. I hope they wont go that far and downsize to a version M256 instead but that's not where the rumor mill is heading.

2020 just got refreshed. they will milk that for 2021 at the very least if not 2022 as well. W205 refresh lasted 3 model years, 19/20/21 with original debut at 2015.
