MBUX Screen won't turn on?

Something weird happened tonight, and before I call the dealer I want to check here first.

My MBUX screen isn't working. I drove somewhere tonight, listening to Sirius XM as I normally do. I turned off my car, and when I started it back up five hours later, the MBUX screen (the big one above the vents) was off and I couldn't turn it on. There's a power button on the center console next to the touchpad/trackpad thingy, but that didn't do anything. Hitting the Home buttons on the steering wheel didn't do anything. Selecting the Radio or Navigation from the center console didn't turn on the screen - nothing worked. My HUD was blank except for the MPH, and the center console showed five dashes "-----" in the center, where the radio station would normally be.

I didn't do anything to proactively turn off the MBUX screen (nor would I know how to). Did I accidentally hit a button or something? Or maybe it's dead and needs to go to the dealer?

I swear, this car has been an absolute pain in my **** and it has less than 3K miles on it. Add this to my list of gripes!

I have 2 vehicles with MBUX and 20k miles on them. We just had this happen where the center screen didn’t turn on for the first time last week.

Then it worked 2 hrs later and has worked fine since then. Is your problem persistent or one time?

Thanks for the reply! This is the first time it's happened. My drive home was only about 10 minutes long, but I did turn the car on and off several times trying to kickstart it. I thought maybe because it's cold outside it froze up, but it wasn't that cold - maybe 41-42 degrees. I'll try again later today to see if it comes on, but either way I will most likely call the dealer so they have a record of the problem in case it happens again.

I had the same experience. A couple of months ago the screen didn't turn on once...a few hours later it was fine and hasn't happened again since.

Had the same issue

I’ve had the same problem intermittently. The screen is blank when the engine is started and many error messages come up on the speedometer screen stating blind spot assist inactive, parktronic inactive etc. sometimes works again a few hours later. The car has been to the dealership several times and each time they have completed a software update however, it’s seems to continue happening now and again. Absolute nightmare!

Software update will fix most of these early model year MBUX problems

Thanks for your reply! The dealer updated software last week but today (after 1 week) the issues still appear, again. Mine has rear SAM cover already. They said it was humidity problem, but I did not agree with that. It is a normal car, not an expensive sensitive toy!

You're welcome : )

There was indeed an issue with 2022 model year's but it was the sedan W206 had water ingress in the SAM module and main cause was tinting.

They need to update more than one module, there are many modules that needs to be updated, some take hours or even days.

I fixed it!

Sold the car. Will NEVER buy a MB again. GM isn’t perfect either but they sure as hell don’t do their unit testing on the on the customers. Fail

I had this happen to me once, and if I recall the fix was to hold down the Star button and the TEL button at the same time. If you Google "MBUX reset" or something similar you'll find YouTube videos on how to do it.

I have never had this occur on my CLE 53, but it only 3 months old. On my C7 corvette it would happen and the process most users did was shut down the vehicle. Open the door, close the door. Start the vehicle. Fixed. It happed 3x to me in 4 years with the C7

I had a 2025 CLE 300 cabriolet and the screens going blank happened multiple times along with many other various software issues. My dealers was great MB was not. The dealer had my car in the shop almost as long as I had it. When I threatened to lemon law the car MB finally agreed to provide me with a 2026 replacement at no extra cost. The 2026 now has 8400 miles and just started having the same screen issues and it is currently at the dealer. The vehicle is unsafe to drive when you have zero information regarding speed or what if anything is functioning when the screens are all blank.
Personally I am done with MB. They can’t seem to permanently fix their vehicles issues.
I will be looking to dump it as soon as I get it back

I wonder if heat is a factor at all.

I had a similar issue with my '21 GLA, turned out the USB port was faulty and was causing the screen to freeze. Try unplugging all USBs and see if that resolves the issue. If not, might be worth looking into a faulty MBUX controller.
