2021 GLC 43 SUV Factory Dashcam Issue
I have a 43 factory-equipped with the dashcam option that has been hooked up to a 1 terabyte Crucial external SSD. It has been working fine until a few months ago, when it started becoming finnicky (best way I can describe it). What happens is that when I start the car and turn the dashcam on through the MBUX system, it just says "Function not available" all the time. It used to be that if turned it on quickly after the car was on, it would also display this message but it would go away once I started driving the car and the dashcam would work. Now it always says "Function not available" no matter if I am stationary, if the car is warmed up, if I am driving slow or if I am driving fast. I cannot find any answers on the internet about this.
I recently had my 10K routine maintenance at my dealer (don't worry, I already had 2 oil changes prior and the car runs flawlessly) where I let them know about my dashcam concern. They told me that the "factory" dashcam is actually serviced and installed by a third party and not Mercedes Benz, so they need to reach out to them and let me know when they can get an appointment to inspect my car. It has now been a month and no one has reached out to me about this from the dealer.
Anyway, if anyone can shed some light on this dashcam issue, I would appreciate it. It seems like it works when it wants to, and for the last several months it has not worked at all. Thank you.

I have the same car, make, model, year and DASH CAM. Dealer did work on mine shortly after delivery. It took several trips and they had to connect remotely to Deutschland. My problem was camera "not available". They ended up replacing the camera behind the mirror. (Took two weeks) The other issue I discovered was that I have to manually delete the files periodically when using the "loop" feature. I tired multiple recording devices, but still had to delete the files manually. The quirky problems remain, seems to start when it wants to etc. If I had it to do over again I would not get the $200 Dash Cam.

Just a quick reply to my own thread: I took the SSD and did a "long" format of the drive. After I plugged it back into the same USB C port in the car (the one in the middle armrest compartment), the dashcam started working fine again. The drive was only about 1/4 full before I formatted it. Weird.

Like you said the Dashcam is a little quirky, I did the USB re-format also, speed doesn't matter 2.0-3.2, Its just bad coding from the manufacturer, I expected better from MB.
