2020 GLC63 Oil Catch Can
GDI engines are known for carbon build up on the back of the intake valves and runners (no detergent fuel wash as with port injection). Best way to prevent this is an oil catch can. I spoke to Weistec regarding any plans for one. Their engineers said the 4.0 liter hot V8 (GLC63) have a factory oil catch can. Can anyone confirm this or have a diagram of its location?

Most newer direct injection engines don’t have carbon buildup problems. This issue was solved primarily through better engine management and timing. That’s why you really don’t hear much about this anymore versus early DI engines that were plagued by carbon deposits. The engineers finally figured out how to mitigate it by adjusting the valve timing.
The big issue, though, is which engines have the proper engine management to control this. If you see reported issues about carbon buildup for a certain make or model, then there’s a good chance that model doesn’t have the benefit of improved DI engine management and/or their engine is running with a very poor tune.
