Android Auto and Mercedes...

So, I just acquired this 2018 GLC43 AMG and am enjoying driving it. I do have one issue. I've searched and everything I've read says that Android Auto should work on this 2018.
I can hook my Google Pixel 7 Pro to my system via Bluetooth and via USB and it does show up when I go to Media and look at Devices. But nowhere do I see anything that says Android Auto.
Reading posts for other Mercedes and some older ones, some show that going into some hidden factory menus allows you to turn on this functionality...I haven't figured out a way to do this on this vehicle.
Has anybody had any success in connection this car to Android Auto? I don't want to purchase an add-on module because it should work...shouldn't it?

Nope, a 2018 GLC43 does not support Android Auto nor Google CarPlay. The GLC is based on the C Class. The 2018 C Class had an optional smartphone integration package, but it couldn't be optioned together with the Multimedia package (COMAND). It could only be optioned with the basic Infotainment system. I can't remember anymore if this package was also offered on the GLC and if so, for which model year(s), but again the car would have had to be optioned with either the smartphone integration package or COMAND, but not both. The C Class got proper Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support with the 2019 facelift, and the GLC with the 2020 facelift that upgraded the Infotainment system to MBUX.

Carplay and Android Auto options can be found as SA codes after decoding the VIN number if is available for your car as original configuration.

Also, if your Data Card has 154 and 522 SA codes the CP and AA can be activated quite easy

Thanks for this information.
I checked my VIN and decoded it at one of those websites and I do not see a 154 or a 522 code in the decode...Oh well...I was hoping I was able to do but I guess not.

I decoded the VIN and it looks like this vehicle was optioned with the COMAND package:
531 COMAND APS NTG5/NTG5.5
I do not see any reference to a Smartphone integration package in the VIN decode.

So, armed with this information, I went looking for options. I found that there are kits that you can buy that will add Android Auto and Car Play to your existing Command system. But the prices seem to be all over the place!
There seems to be two different systems. A box is added that adds the functionality, and a replacement display that has an android computer built into it.
I do like the idea of a larger screen with the replacement display...
these two replace the screen:
I saw this for a thousand bucks: https://shoptfb.com/collections/c-cl...41587192004793
And then I saw this for under 500 bucks:
Amazon Amazon
Then for just adding the box and using your existing screen, I found these:
For between 500 and 600: https://dmpcardes********/product/fa...screen-w205-2/
And this for just over 400 bucks: https://www.gtacarkits.com/product/w...glc-2015-2018/
So, has anyone had any experience with these things? Is it worth it? Do they last? What kind of "gotchas" will I need to look out for?
Thanks in advanced!

I have this module installed in my 2017 GLC 43 AMG: Wireless Carplay & Android Auto (W205) Mercedes C-Class Pre-facelift (NTG 5.0 5.1) – DMP Car Design

It has wired/wireless Carplay & Android Auto and it works flawlessly. It connects through Aux so make sure it's been enabled on your comand (if necessary have it released through coding). Sound quality is excellent. Installation took me 15 minutes. I've had some questions about phone connection and they provide a Whatsapp support line that actually responds quite well (support folks are located in China).

I had one of those Android 10" screens in my previous car (W204) and this also worked fine but not perfect. Booting took longer than the OEM system and there were occasional software glitches, but all in all it will do and it also had its own sim card slot. But the module from DMP that I'm using in my GLC feels much better TBH, and the 8" screen looks great with Carplay (but no touch unfortunately).

I tried both systems. The one with the bigger screen, I never got it to work right. Phone connection issues. Now I have the box only.
All this system bigger screen or just the box have one problem The way the system is integrated into the command system, using either Bluetooth or Aux (USB) to play the audio.
So can't listen to the car radio and using CarPlay or Android for navigation.
This is the box I installed, https://roadtop.com/en-ca/collection...-ntg-50-system

Hi, do you have a link to instructions detailing the coding for the aux? I have the same car as the OP and I'm looking to do the same process
