Inconsistency rant.

This is more of an observation than anything else.
I noticed the other day that when driving my GLC43 in eco mode, Glide doesn't work when Auto stop/start is disabled...this is somewhat disappointing. I don't like auto stop/start, but I do enjoy Glide.
Also, even though I have the vehicle configured for imperial values (temperature and miles), when I go to the Engine Data screen, the temperatures for oil and transmission are in Centigrade...but what is really annoying is the inconsistency of the torque being in ft-lbs and not newton meters...This random mish-mash of values is rather annoying. It's like Mercedes took their task *ALMOST* to completion then figured, "who cares, nobody will notice". I've noticed these kinds of inconsistencies all throughout the software system. It's like the software has not been fully thought out. Mercedes may be experts at mechanics, but as far as UI software? They really do suck!

I can't comment on your software inconsistencies. I haven't observed that. My US spec C63 has consistent units of measure throughout. What year is your GLC43? Do you have MBUX or COMAND? MBUX is unfortunately buggy. Also, if this car was preowned, then the pervious owner may have messed with the coding. US spec models can't be configured to show Celsius for example. They always show Fahrenheit for temperature. If it shows Celsius, then it might be a Canadian import, which is another can of worms.

As for Glide mode, that's by design. Glide mode is only active if Auto Start/Stop is enabled. The required conditions are all explained in the owner's manual. Depending on the model, the engine even shuts off during gliding, so it's quite logical that it is tied to Auto Start/Stop.

So you're saying that the Engine Data screen shows the oil and transmission temps in Fahrenheit instead of Centigrade? I have a 2018 GLC43 with the COMMAND system. My vehicle was previously owned by my dad who I'm certain did not make any coding changes...he just doesn't have a technical bone in his body! And I'm pretty certain it's a US spec model having been purchased far from the Canadian border at a dealership in Santa Fe NM.
As for Glide Mode, my engine does not shut down in Glide Mode. What I notice is that the transmission doesn't downshift in Glide Mode and that the engine RPMs drop to around 500 and the tires free-spin. Like putting the transmission in neutral.

I would love to know how to go in and set these temps to Fahrenheit...

Ok, yours is the older generation COMAND. Not sure if there was a bug with that system and whether there's an update to fix it. I'm guessing your dad never even used this screen and didn't bring it up with the dealership to get it fixed. My engine data screen looks a little different with the updated COMAND system and I don't have a screenshot handy, but here's my instrument cluster showing the transmission, engine oil and tire temperatures are consistently in Fahrenheit. It's no different on the engine data screen. Somebody with the same generation car may chime in and confirm if they are seeing the same thing.

Yes, in your case the transmission decouples and the engine keeps idling. Nonetheless, Auto Start/Stop has to be enabled for Glide mode to work.
