Hi Ron, I should have been clearer, I was at the KOP mall yesterday talking to the staff about the upcoming GLE and they said there is no carbon fiber trim option available for the 2020 GLE and the metal weave is a painted metal made to look similar to carbon fiber for far less cost. I ask if carbon fiber would available in the 53 or 63 but they didn't know.
Thanks....Not that it really matters except for the name. I like the look of wood better but the metal Weave goes with several colors-black, grey, brown, etc
You need to check with you dealer ASAP about the first two. I also don't see 810 Burmeister listed which comes with DP1. Not getting DP1 would be huge. I would not be concerned about the last items.
I've already sent emails and will be following up first thing tomorrow morning. There is no way I would accept the vehicle without DP1. I'm hoping this can be explained by a hiccup in Netstar but more than likely I'm going to assume human error at the dealership.
Hi when did you place your order ? I just want to know the time frame I need to wait. Thanks
Prior order dates may not matter much! Now that they have scheduled production they could easily accelerate locking orders. I ordered 11-24 and to be safe am assuming my order could be locked in a few days. The earliest that orders could be placed was 11-6. Normally they might give you a production date and then lock a week or more later but this early in the process I wouldn’t assume anything.

I'm extremely agitated right now.
Hopefully it will get fixed to your satisfaction. Feel for you, crappy deal!
I just cannot believe the US configurator is not up yet; like you guys, I check it every day. Seems to me if they've changed over the tooling and production, they should let you build the new one online. That's what BMW did with the X5. I get the argument that maybe there're a lot of 2019s out there that they want to move, but then MBUSA tweets/Instagrams about the new one? WTH??
Reponse from MBUSA:
"Thank you for your email to Mercedes-Benz USA. Our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience. Information for the 2019 GLE 400 SUV is currently available, although the 2019 GLE Coupe, and remaining models, will be updated within the coming weeks.
I too visited the Mercedes Benz Pop Up showroom yesterday in King of Prussia mall (thanks JoeMa for the heads-up!) and got my $1000 "gift". Played with the MUBX system on the new A Class and was very impressed. The speaking voice is much better then on my 2015 550 S and am looking forward to ordering my 2020 GLE 450 next week. As a side note I also visited the Tesla showroom in the mall and talked at length with a "representative" (not a salesman). I asked him about maintenance on a Tesla and he said no worries - you only have to worry about replace things like tires, wiper blades and such. I then asked him about changing brake fluid and he said "Oh, no brake fluid on the Tesla"! ???? I continued to ask about how they can get the brakes to work without fluid and he said "regenerative braking" does it all. Then I asked why they had brake calipers and rotors on the wheels and how do they work? He was stunned and just gave me a "lizard look" and started talking about something completely different. I guess basic automotive training is not a prerequisite for these guys. I will stick with MB.
As with buddy0329, my order is now frozen. I ordered 11/7 with production scheduled first decade of February. I had hoped to delete rear side air bags and add Magic Vision Control.
I was told by my dealer that MBUSA froze all ordered vehicles with allocations and made it seem like it was abnormal to do so this early in the calendar.
I was also told that I was SOL on my initial order and that MBUSA was responsible for tossing out the Premium Package and heated rear seats for whatever reason. They are trying to get a new allocation for second decade in Feb on Monday, but no guarantees. Really upsetting course of events.
I now have tonight and tomorrow to settle on whether I want to stick with my original build or modify it.
I'm getting weak in the knees on the following selections:
Regular Sunroof versus Panoramic sunroof
20" AMG Night wheels versus 21" AMG multispoke Night wheels
Ventilated leather seats versus ventilated MB-Tex
Interior Trim: I keep fishing for something better than glossy Grey Linden that will go well with the Black seats & black headliner. and perhaps provide some contrast. The initial thinking was that the "glossy" linden would be contrasting. I cant find greta pictures of this option and I'm a bit non-plussed to know that there is black piano trim pieces in the center console if you pick this option.

That sucks! Regarding the glossy linden trim, the pics on the Kongurator are pretty good - appears the console trim matches.

It really doesn't matter at this point what the cause was, but your dealer's story that MBUSA just deleted the two options doesn't make any sense. The Premium Package is probably on 90% of cars, and they would give the dealer a warning first.

Keep in mind that what the dealers sees using NetStar may not be what distribution is seeing with the actual order. There are some glitches with these systems. They may have the order correct over at distribution.

I agree, which is why it makes my blood boil. The explanation makes zero sense. This wasn't a rare-ish one off option.

That's just scary if they are locking orders without reviewing with the dealer. Since they know there are issues. The other possibility is that the dealer made a mistake. I have a meeting in the morning to make changes to my order and have this nagging thought that mine is locked. Even though it was 2 weeks later it was the first order at my dealer and they have allocation. Fingers crossed.
I'm trying to decide between Tesla's Auto pilot and the GLE's . What are the driver assist capabilities options available? Thanks for your input.
My take is that the Tesla has more advanced software at this time but since we haven’t got the GLE yet.... maybe not. The Mercedes has more advanced hardware and like Tesla software is upgraded over the air so in the longer term has more potential. People keep dying with Tesla’s because they “don’t save you from yourself”. Just a few days ago the Police had to physically force stop a drunk driver passed out in the passenger seat. Mercedes has a monitor on the driver through a camera to watch and pull you over to the side of the road if you happen to have a stroke or whatever....I think that’s how it works. IMO, Mercedes is hands down the best.
I’m not going to look back but I assume you have seen Greg’s link to the configurator that explains the GLE system in detail. There are a number of safety features added to the GLE, collision avoidance, seats that move you toward the center if a side impact, etc. There are also a number of professional reviews that cover this to a certain extent. Laws are different in each state and not much help on a Fed Level so most car Co’s are going slow. Tesla seems to be more of a risk taker but they have less to lose.....all or none with them. Any hiccup and Tesla is gone including safety lawsuits and how they weather the mass of competition as other big players get competitive in the Electric’s. I would be Leary of Tesla just from the competitive environment they are facing.
By the way Ned welcome to the Forum. I assume you are the same Ned from the Audi forum. If not then you may not know that the Audi Q8 is Level 3 while I think Tesla is still Level 2. Audi SD level 3 is activated outside the States with no date given for a USA update. It ships with all the goodies and the aftermarket may soon have an option to flip those switches. Audi has a lot going for it and was my second choice.
My only interest in a self driving car is for long freeway trips where you could reduce eye strain with a little help from the car’s system. I think there are still a lot of potential issues with all these systems still maybe 2-3 years out.

It seems like the more basic question is if you want an electric vehicle; to most that would be more important than nuances of autonomous features (that and if you could live with those stupid Falcon doors). The Mercedes EQ C launches next year.

The emerald green GLE at the LA auto show appears to be grey linden and it definitely has the piano black trim pieces. Not sure if the piano black is to be avoided or the grey linden...but I digress. I've had carbon fiber and aluminum in my Audis..:

I don't think that video is definitive - the trim is almost black in some light - I think I see a hint of color on the console pieces.
There was a good shot in that video of the 21" 14-spoke wheels though. This is the front, which is plenty beefy, but rears are 40mm wider!
Indeed. I've had the 20" AMG RZW Night wheels on my build, but this video has been swaying me to reconsider the 21" wheels. They are gorgeous. But the practicality of them? The front sidewalls are 45 series, but the rears are only 40! The 18" winter tire setup on my S4 are 40 series but that is a midsize sedan. How comfortable is a 40 series tire going to be on a 5,000lb SUV w/o Airmatic?
I've always swapped between summer wheels and winter wheels. This MB was making me consider all seasons for the first time; mounted on the 20's.
