Keep in mind that we have two sales taxes (Provincial 9.975% + Federal 5% = 14.975%) to add to the price. This $72,000 CAD turns out to be $82,782 CAD after sales tax is applied.

In the US, taxes are different in each of the 52 states. I'm lucky to live in a state with no sales tax and low registration fees.

In PA there is a 6% sales tax but you only pay the tax on the difference when trading a car.

Production slippage

Not good news, my "production date" has now slipped 15 days from 2/27 to 3/14. My sales guy says the 3 they have an order for 1st & 2nd decade of February have end dates of 3/14, 15 & 16 now. He nor I do not know what's going on. Short on parts? Production issues? EPA/DOT approval? Or just marketing timing?

Sorry to see that happening....that’s a substantial change.

Looks like they are having trouble making them as fast as planned:

"Weitere Anlaufprobleme gibt es auch beim neuen GLE (V167). Man hat im Werk Tuscaloosa die Automation und Digitalisierung deutlich erhöht und hat nun auch erst einmal mit Problemen zu kämpfen. So wurde auch die Markeinführung von 16.02.19 auf den 23.03.2019 verschoben. Es ist also insgesamt damit zu rechnen, dass die Verkäufe im 1. Quartal 2019 geringer ausfallen könnten."

The launch date has been moved from 2/16 to 3/23

Translation: "Further start-up problems also exist with the new GLE (V167). At the Tuscaloosa plant, automation and digitization has been increased significantly and now it has to contend with problems. So the brand introduction was postponed from 16.02.19 to 23.03.2019. Overall, sales are expected to be lower in the first quarter of 2019."

If postponing the launch and moving back production dates means improved quality control, I'm all for it. I'd rather take delivery a month or two later and get a well-built GLE. As I said before, Spring is beautify time to buy a new car.

I got an email this afternoon from the sales manager that my production date was also moved to March 15. Not a big deal for me as long as they build me a quality GLE.

Mercedes sales down with no new GLE

We know Daimler is anxious to get the GLE to market!

"Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz delivered 180,539 vehicles to its customers all over the world in January (-6.7%). The second-best start to a year for sales was influenced by important model changes in the high-volume SUV and compact-car segments. In particular, the model change of the B-Class, CLA and GLE, each with a double-digit sales decrease, had a negative impact on total unit sales worldwide despite the ongoing high demand for the cars with the star. From today’s perspective, the company expects the model changes to affect deliveries in the first quarter.

In January, the SUVs from Mercedes-Benz were well below the previous year's high level, with sales of more than 60,000 units of the GLA, GLC, GLC Coupé, GLE, GLE Coupé, GLS and G-Class models (-15.9%). Above all, the GLE model change had a dampening effect on unit sales.

With the B-Class, the CLA and the GLE, we look forward in the coming months to the new generations of models very popular with our customers and expect the model offensive in our high-volume segments to provide significant sales impetus,” said Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. '2019 will be a challenging year for the entire industry. But we expect to inspire our customers with new models – especially in the second half of the year – and therefore aim to achieve a slight increase in unit sales and a new record in the full year.'”

Looking like April more and more. The release of cars to the Bloggers may mean we are getting closer though. Auto week featured the GLE recently even though it was an older review from the Texas event. Most reviews are superficial, still waiting for some comparisons and more in depth like Autogefuhl!

Likely, in depth and comparison reviews are embargoed until the dealer launch. March 23 if same as Germany.

I don’t know if anyone noticed but they mention late spring, Hope that’s wrong, that would mean late May or June.

My dealer manager says my GLE450 is still scheduled at end of March as original without any push back. I ordered it in early January.

Not the model I would choose to cover, but some interesting detail shots. Picked up a couple things:
  • Backup camera hides away when not in use - brilliant!
  • Metal look door lock pins; I paid like $200 for the AMG real metal ones on my current car
  • Panel gaps look good
  • Defrost function for sensors behind grille badge makes sense

My first decade March is still unchanged but based on the others changing it might still change as we get closer to that date. Unless the E ABC or some other component is the reason for delay instead of the acknowledged (by Mercedes) production delays with the GLE. I’m not sure of when the Feb 1st decade order dates changed but it was probably about the time they were scheduled.

FYI - Received this from my dealer the other day. Seems like the MSRP's are established. And yes I know this seems pricey for GLE but it is fully loaded and will replace my 2015 S Class.

So I had a discussion with my salesperson about the suspension option that we will get. As per his explanation we will get what he called basic Airmatic. He explained that this is not a normal multi chamber air suspension, but there will be something like an air bag with the steel spring that can raise the car with a specific pre-selected height. The car can be raised with a button or when I select the offroad in the dynamic select. Is anyone familiar with something like this or maybe I understood him wrongly.

Yes you have the basic air suspension as part of the E-ABC package and it’s a lot more than just air bags. You need to know which package you got. If it’s E-ABC then......This is the first vehicle to have the ability to control each unit individually. There is quite a bit of detail and discussion previously on this thread. The fastest way to get some info is to Google Mercedes E-ABC and it will give you details as well as some YouTube video with demos. There is a good overview in the Dealer Order Guide, (DOGj. Also go to Future Vehicle on Mercedes Web and page down to 2020 GLE.
if just regular Air then there hasn’t been much new info disclosed. One would assume that it’s unchanged from prior years.
