Wireless CarPlay dongle doesn’t work

Any update for the Carlinkit dongle? Is it a more seamless experience comparing with wired CarPlay? Thank you.
  • Dongle doesn’t work so I returned it.

I have the exact same issues.

This did happen but not now. Go to settings, general, CarPlay,MB Infotainment > and press Forget This Car
then re set up your phone Be sure to open settings in your car to manually authorize CarPlay. This fixed the problem for me after iOS 13.2.3 update.

I returned the dongle as it remained very unstable.

Same happens to me. I have to select cancel and then connect again to carplay. Works the second time around.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna try it today. In addition, I found a thread, which indicated that the problem was related to newer version of iOS 13.

I tried your way today and yesterday, and the problem still persists. Could you please elaborate "Open settings in your car to manually authorize CarPlay"? I can't find anywhere in MBUX system that could manually authorize CarPlay. Thank you.

Basically, I pressed "Forget this car" on my iPhone. Then, I plugged the phone to the car, and only a message on the phone showed up asking me whether I wanna use CarPlay when the phone is locked. No message appeared on the car display at all. CarPlay interface just showed up automatically.

FYI there is a petition from the community for widescreen CarPlay on change.org. Not sure how useful it is but only takes a few seconds to sign it. http://chng.it/bf9kWqnfyb

Widescreen CarPlay is certainly welcome. However, I realize that if the interface is widescreen, the steering wheel is gonna block part of the left portion of the screen. (I used the recommended position adjustments for the steering wheel and the seat based on my height.) In this case, the current design just avoids the blocked area by the steering wheel, which seems somewhat smart to me.

Anyway, my top request is still to get Wireless CarPlay. BMW has canceled the subscription fee for Wireless CarPlay, and Porsche has started offering Wireless CarPlay in the new Macan model. Needless to say, Audi offers Wireless CarPlay in variety of the their models. It's your turn, Mercedes.

Wireless CarPlay is so huge. I miss just getting in the car and having CarPlay work. Now I gotta mount my phone and connect it via a cable, so lame.

It sounds like Apple is planning to ditch the lightning port altogether on the next generation of iPhone, so it seems almost a necessity for MB to move to wireless CarPlay on future vehicles. I'm not sure if that's something they can do strictly with a software update on 2020 GLEs.

Sitting in an e-class without mbux and it’s got full screen CarPlay

not having it on something newer is outrageous

It’s hard to believe MBUX won’t have widescreen CarPlay when E-class adopts MBUX. It will be a hilarious downgrade.

Porsche has now activated wireless CarPlay on the 2019 Cayenne via a software update (didn't have it originally).

So this makes it even more disappointing that the GLE does not have it.

Is the cable an original apple cable?

Also, make sure you are connecting to the correct port for Carplay.

There should be 2 ports just above the cupholders, near the cellphone stowage compartment. I think the one on the left is meant for Android Auto / Apple CarPlay.

Correct. The one on the left. It will have a different logo than the other one.

found it! It’s my mom’s car so I don’t see it often. It works now!
