Is this Normal having never ordered before?

So I put an order in for a new 450 February 27th. I was told then an April Build date. 1 days later I changed the color and now was told a May build with June delivery. Today the dealer tells me a July build with a mid August delivery. That's 4 months from now and almost 6 months from order? Getting ready to bag the order.

The Dealer can change anything on your order and it shouldn’t change the build date until it locks and that wouldn’t happen in one day. Might not happen for a month. Something doesn’t add up. The change from April is likely due to the problems at the Factory that have been discussed in detail. Some might depend on what you ordered and what components are at issue but no one knows any of the details of what causes delays except MB. I would ask to see your order details on the Dealer Netstar System. It will show order date and projected build date.

Check out some of the other threads here about the production delays. Most people are looking at about four to five months from their original order placement if they're lucky.

Here's what the email said word for word. Your GLE450 has finally gotten an allocation! July-3rd decade(10 days) So, first week to mid/August delivery barring any factory delays. Hopefully not. I’ll let you know as it moves through production. The process is underway! Order date was Feb 27th.Yeah I think I'll cancel and look at something else. GLC will be rolling out right after August as well. Here's what the email said..

Your order doesn’t seem out of the ordinary. Have you considered buying one from inventory? There should be something available in inventory similar or coming to a dealer soon. I assume your dealer would do a dealer trade for you.

I mentioned this to my dealer today and he is looking. But he said the other dealer would want a like trade which they don't have and he's not sure they'd accept an order slot for August. I just informed him II might cancel and just revisit in the fall. I'd rather do that then be frustrated by delay and delay. Also might look at the X7..

Two things, first, it look like you might not have had a build slot and the dealer finally got one for you. Two, unless you really, really like the X7 stay with what is confirmed. That's just the way MB works, and yes it sucks - hard. In fall, you might have to wait till the end of winter to get you vehicle. It's locked in now, hopefully, use the forum to ease the wait.

You can do a search at other dealers and buy direct from one of them as an alternative. There should be a fair inventory near you. Dealer loyalty vs get one sooner.

A gaggle of MB's
A "request" is when you decide with your dealer what you want built - a "order" is when the factory has confirmed it.

To me - your "salesperson" seems to have been hazy on your first two "requests" - and now has a confirmed factory PO - US customer orders for the GLE450 have been a bit "light" because frankly US salespeople are not "hep" yet - Euro/Asia customer orders have been literally flooding in because those markets "get it" that the new GLE450 is awesome - and Asia LOVES the added 3rd row option since Asia never gets all the GLS's they need - and they can get 7-passenger 2020 GLE 6-7 months earlier than the not-yet-announced 2020 GLS
