GLE 350D Coupe
GLE 350D Coupe here, 2 weeks ago I was taking my car out first time in the day, after reversing and changing to D, I accelerated no joke, 5 meters and suddenly heard an explosion, car turned off and i got down to check, whole motor oil leaking and i find this on the floor. Explosion was so loud my parents came out rushing cause they thought i had crashed it. Car is 2018 and only has 9xxx km and has been to every maintenance . Dealership says they've never seen anything happen like that and need to check everything to see if it under guarantee since I still have till October for it to expire. Any one have even the slightest thing close to this experience?

If that metal is from the crank case the its looks as though its "put a leg out of bed", but as for a reason at that mileage then its pretty rare and has to be a warranty job. I cannot think of any scenario that could put the blame on you.

I would guess you threw a rod; very unusual for that car, I would think. I think this is the correct forum for you: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class-w166-206/

Even factory said its very weird, cause a day before my parents borrowed the car and they went on the highway but they said it was all good, imagine that happening going 120 km/h, car turns off, hydraulics are off and you are practically dead.

Is it me or can you not extend/pull up the driver side windshield wipers due to the lower end being blocked by the hood from being able to do so? No issues on the passenger side wiper.

There's a service or park feature that is available (if I remember correctly) to allow access. Maybe somebody will confirm?

We have a GLE450 for 6 months now @ approximately 6500km. We are encountering an intermittent issue with HVAC system. Climate control is set at 20C/68F. The vehicle will start to heat, but on a few occasions, the heat continues to the point that temperature is quite unbearable. The only way to stop the heat is by lowering the climate control to LOW or off. Temperature settings above LOW does not stop the heat. LOW engages the AC to blow cold air (not preferred in winter) same for off. I’ve reported the issue to the dealer but they were not able to replicate the issue during the visit, but advised that a software update was performed.

Since the visit to the dealer, the issue has happened again after a recent carwash. Is it possible to have a defective thermostat in the car? Or possibly a valve to the coolant not closing? Anybody else seeing this? Any recommendation?

Regards, DS

I have the same issues. In the last 6 months this happen about 6-7x.
I am in tropical climate thus aircon is set at 22 Degree C. when i start a new journey at this temperature it starts to blow hot air and i have to adjust temperature to 16-17 degree C to feel the cold air.
Outside temperature is 25-32 DegreeC. This issue will last for the next few days and it will goes back to normal.

I have complained this to the dealer and it is difficult to replicate the issue at the dealer side.
Anyway last week they change the aircon sensor located near the moonroof switch or sunglass holder.
They suspect sensor issue and i hope this will resolve the problem.

You may inform your dealer to change the sensor too. I think this is quite a common problem.
Hope this help.

Suqicake, Thanks for the inputs and recommendations. I’ll bring it up with the dealer on my next visit. I envy your tropical weather. It is currently -15C/5F where I am at.

Angry Rattles In 2020 GLE 450

I have had my GLE SINCE May 2019. There is a rattle in the back end of the vehicle that the dealers just can’t fix. To me it seems to be around the rear passenger side, in around the sunroof. It has probably been in the shop 10 times to try and repair. Has anyone else had the same issues/. If so, what did they say was causing the noise and how did they repair it?

Everyone on the forums here calls MB customer service first and speaks with a Executive Referral Manager. They will point you in the right direction.

Sorry, but I just loving doing that to newbies.
Hey @lschaufert I’m kidding. Don’t call them, you are just wasting your time.
As for the rattle, I haven’t heard of your problem specifically but since the dealership is having trouble, I would start by taking EVERYTHING out of the car, including spare tire, jacks, cargo cover, ….anything that easily comes out, and then have someone sit in the area of the rattle while you drive and see if they can pin point it. Sometimes the dealerships could care less about fixing a car unless they can plug a computer up to it and it tells them what to do.
Good luck.

Did you take a Tech, Service Manager or Service Writer along to make sure they heard and acknowledge the noise and location?
If not, it's unlikely that they will find / fix the issue.

It's a good idea to find a location that's near your Dealership where you can duplicate the noise, reliably. Do your scouting first, so you can show them Exactly How And Where To Duplicate the noise, so they can test their remedy before calling it "good."
If they can't duplicate it on demand, there's less chance of a lasting fix.

Do your homework (scouting) to increase your odds.

Once I find a rattle or noise, I place a painter's blue tape on the area. I did it on my 22 GLE450's driver's side dashboard and I have to take back again for repairs….noises are difficult to pinpoint even after road testing. These vehicles have so many plastic pieces and trims that it is a nightmare to get it right the first time.

The car is now at the dealer for the suspension noise. On top of that, on the way to the dealer a faulty suspension message appeared on the cluster.

I'm less than impressed with this car. Looks like it is still a beta version...

PS the lane assistant is also a beta version. IMHO.
can you please help and advise on how you fixed the noisy suspension

V167 GLE 350 de
Artico (artificial leather) has been Mercedes' best car upholstery. It has lasted for many years and many thousands of miles. But now the quality is gone.

I have had my new GLE 350 de V167 for just over a year and have driven 15,000 miles. After the first six months, the seat on the driver's seat cracked. Warranty exchange. After another six months, the car upholstery has started to crack again! And now even the backrest upholstery has started to crack

I'm disappointed with Mercedes.

Could be that you got a bad batch and may not be symptomatic of their overall product. It even happens with their leather. I had a CLK with the grey interior and the leather cracked within a year. It was replaced and never had another issue.

When you say Artico, do you mean MB-Tex? Is it the same thing? I’m getting MB-Tex simply because I want something more durable and spill proof.

I think the perforations really weaken the Artico (MB-Tex in the US). The non-perforated on my Sport seats is holding up fine after 3 years.

Well that sucks. Maybe I just get leather and massaging seats now. I wanted something dog and kid friendly.

Vents not working properly gle 167

did you ever figure it out as to what happened as I have the same issue

You can definitely hear the HVAC working though, especially on high, but you hear the HVAC up front though, but yet, there is little to no air flow coming out of those rear vents. Turning on the rear vents seem to somehow throw off the vents/HVAC system up front as well. Strange, don't know how to describe it. Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the vents, particular the rear vents.
