Key Issues

Anyone having an issue with their keys? Most times I get out of car and touch door to lock it doesn't work. Especially the back doors. I have to remove key from pocket to get it to work. Same thing with the REAR HATCH, if I hit the close I'm fine but if I hit the LOCK button nothing. This isn't my first Benz with Keyless Go but it's by far the worse so far. Was wondering if anyone else is getting this. GLE450.

A few of us are having this issue. Some jump up and down and it works, I take mine out and shake the fob, then it works. I'm not sure I have seen a dealer solution yet.

Moving the key around with your hand defeats the purpose of keyless touch, doesn't it?

Yeah I have to jostle the key in pocket but as others said if I need to reach for key then it isn't keyless...ha...$85K for this? Also don't get me started on the remote starting. Never works....hasn't worked right in years on other cars I've had.

We will be doing development work on this vehicle platform in the coming months, so you'll be able to start your vehicle remotely with no problems in the not so distant future!

Mine has had this same issue maybe 6-8 times in 6 weeks, but always when I try to lock the car when exiting and never when I reach to unlock the car. I have done the tap the keyfob while it’s in my pocket has allowed me to lock the vehicle. Hopefully, this will be fixed with a software update.

Is it smart enough not to start in a closed garage?

Apparently there is a Mercedes TSB saying to replace the Fobs. I got two more bad ones a month ago will try new ones again soon. Not a lot of people are having the problem so hope they have it figured out now.

I took mine to the dealer Monday cause 3 times in a row on Sunday it didn't work when I got out of the vehicle. They said there was a bulletin on it and did some test and looks like all it good. Well, it happened to me on their loaner vehicle they gave me (GLE also). Got mine back yesterday and worked all day. Then today, 2 times it didn't work!

if it’s the same bulletin I had done it’s a software update to the Fob. It made mine better but they still go to sleep prematurely. I’m going to request new Fobs again at 10k service coming up soon. If they buy enough Fobs maybe they will figure out why most work OK but others don’t.

They didn't mention anything about a fob update. And the guy in service kept tell me you need to press the small square indention on any of the door handles. OK... I never had to do that on my 2014 ML and never had an issue. Even if it doesn't work, pressing the small square didn't either cause I would try that too.

Shake the Fob and see if that works or jiggle it in your pocket.
Edit-Take a video with your phone so that you can prove that it doesn’t work...including shaking it to get it to work.
