Mercedes dropped the spare on nearly all models. I'm moving to BMW or Audi for my next purchase. The new GLE can give you a spare tire if you go for 2 rows instead of 3.

BMW has been big into run flats with no spare. You can get one as an option on the 2-row X5, I believe.

Spare Tire GLE 450

Hello everyone. I have a mercedes gle 450 2020. In Argentina it is only sold with a third row of seats, and without a spare wheel or runflat. On a trip, I have already broken a wheel, and obviously the repair kit was useless. I understand that several of the gle of the usa and canada that do not come with a third row of seats have a spare tire. Could someone pass me the code number of that spare wheel? I have tried with my VIN, but being configured like this in Argentina it does not give me the option to buy this spare part as an option. Thank you so much.

Bummer-must have been out of the norm to break a wheel!
First you need to see if you have an access point and room for the spare. It is a mini spare (not good for much) and also needs an inflator....it goes in a storage area covered by the third row so where would you put it? It might be more practical to carry a full size in the small rear hatch area or even on top if you can get a roof rail setup. There are covers for tires that might keep the tire from getting dirt on other things and look better. Might even fit in third row. I haven’t really looked at a third row but from the pics it seems like they eliminated the spare for lack of a place to put it.
I’ll look at my spare when I get home and post a picture and part number if one is available...unless someone can do it sooner.

Thank you very much for the reply. I have already bought a normal tire to take on long trips, but imagine that it takes up a lot of space in my trunk. that's why I want the spare tire to take up less space.

The compact temporary spare used in the GLE is pre-inflated, not a folding type. While not as good as a full-size, it saves a lot of cargo room.

Greg,

It must vary by model. Mine came with the folding-type spare, not an fully inflated compact spare.

I drive back and forth late and night from the Jersey Shore and had visions of no spare and only to be left with a can of air. Dealer wanted to change out the tires but I wasn't secure with that either. I wound up buying a GLE without the 3rd row and a spare. MB apparently started changing the tires at the 2nd half of the model year and assumed that the can of air would suffice. There is no room for a spare with the 3rd row. I feel your pain.
I realize this is an old post, but I just came across it. The MO stamped on the tire indicates Mercedes Original, indicating that tire was an OE fit.

Can confirm that GLE350, w/ 3rd row, w/ 21" AMG wheels, do not have spare and have the TIREFIT (some kind of compressor/inflator and repair kit, there are two parts to it).

We did a test drive with another GLE350 with runflats 19", and it was considerably louder and more harsh on broken roads. We were really surprised to hop into the 21" non-run-flat and got a smoother ride, way smoother. We took the risk and banking on roadside assistance if anything happens.

Did you perchance glance at the tire pressure of the two examples? And did the two cars have the same steel suspension? Thanks.

I have the Compact spare with 12 volt inflator as pictured in post 33 above. It has a larger wheel than the one Greg has and will be closer to the factory size once inflated. There is no visible part number but here's a source for OEM parts in the US. If you can't find what you need you might email them and also ask if they will ship to you. https://www.mercedesoem.parts/

Funny you ask - I did... I was somewhat familiar with the menus from the A-class loaner, plus I'm used to checking the pressure on my W204 I have (having a slow leak that I'm too lazy to address), so I intuitively found the service settings (spent first 5 minutes fiddling with MBUX to see if I can live with it LOL), and the tire pressure was at 42psi on both example. I believe the dealer had set all the cars to 42. Once I brought mine home, I adjusted mine to 35 all around and no noticeable increase/decrease in NVH.

Also both had steel suspension.

@djer thanks for your observations. As you said, hard to explain the difference, 19" to 21".

Do I have this right and how does this group feel about a $75K car that could be stuck by the side of the road by something as trivial as a flat tire??
If you order one with 3rd row seat my dealer says it comes with run flat tires because there is no room for a spare. I didn't want 3rd row so mine came with regular tires and a spare. My 2018 E 300 has run flats but I also bought a spare and jack on Ebay. Blew out a run flat already. Pulled over, changed tire and was on my way.

Anecdotally I'd say run flats are much more prone to damage than conventional tires.

Semi-related to spare tires (emergency, break-downs, etc.), have any of you fitted the OEM warning triangle that fit into the opening below:

I have that type mounted to the trunk lid of my BMW, but have a different one in a soft case in the GLE.

How strange. It's a link to Amazon, for "Wagan FRED PRO Flashing Roadside Emergency Disc LED Flare." If I click from my phone it takes me to Macy's where they sell for $78, or from my computer it goes to Amazon for $25. It's blindingly bright, with magnets and hooks, or you can lay them on the ground.
Trying link again: https://smile.amazon.com/Wagan-EL263...e%2C269&sr=8-1
Hope it works this time.

Also...

On another technical note, I just noticed on MBUSA.com the GLE 53 towing capacity is listed as 3,858 lb. That can't be right? That's half of the 7,700 on the 450.
