Actually the perforations are to provide a path for gasses generated by out-gassing from the pads under extreme heat. Without the perforations or grooves, the gas that's generated lifts the puck from the disc, just like black ice under tires.
And to another post, the perforations are cast in, not drilled. This decreases the possibility of stress risers after drilling.

Heat and gas are both right but Brembo lists 5 reasons and they describe a drilled disc, not sure if that’s really cast or drilled.I learned something thanks M....Here’s Brembo’s take-
1) More grip
Compared to a standard disc, from the initial braking phase, Brembo Xtra drilled discs ensure greater grip and more responsive and efficient performance of the braking system. Because of the holes, the friction coefficient between disc and pad is greater. Especially in the initial phase of braking, you can notice a quicker and more decisive response when you press the brake pedal.2) Attractive and sporty look
A visual impression is also important and a vehicle with Brembo Xtra drilled discs definitely does not go unnoticed. These discs are attention grabbers and are guaranteed to increase the sporty aesthetic of the vehicle.
If a sports car stands out primarily because of the details, then in order to give your car more of a “racing” touch, nothing is better than the enhanced look that Brembo Xtra drilled discs ensure.
3) Advantages on wet roads
The holes disrupt the layer of water that can cover the braking surface. That layer of water acts as a cushion on standard discs, separating the disc and brake pad and increasing the time it takes to stop in wet conditions. Brembo Xtra, on the other hand, provides an efficient response from the very first time the brake pedal is pressed, no matter what the weather conditions are.
4) Better heat and gas dispersion
On a standard disc, a sequence of decisive braking manoeuvres in a short period of time translates into a temperature increase. The combustion of the resins that make up the pads, in turn generates gases (fading) that act as a bearing between pad and disc, decreasing the efficiency of the braking system. On a Brembo Xtra disc, on the other hand, the holes allow for quick expulsion of these gases, keeping the friction coefficient unaltered. The holes also help heat from the braking system dissipate more efficiently, even in normal driving conditions.5) Pad always in top shape
On a standard disc, wear can result in a build-up of ferrous material, which is deposited on the brake pad's friction material.
The holes on Brembo Xtra discs, on the other hand, have a scraping effect, which cleans the surface of the brake pad, freeing it form materials that can dampen the brake's response.
There is such a thing as love at first sight, and it often takes the shape of a Brembo Xtra drilled disc.

I have only seen them referred to as drilled. Never heard them refer to as perforated or cast hole rotors. Regardless of how they are made the early 580 do not have them. I think my wife will be fine with the rotors supplied. Now on my E63S I would like the cast hole rotors in ceramic composite please.

I can’t tell for certain but my rotors are drilled to chamfer the hole. They may be cast and then drilled to clean them up. Here’s what I found on the net.
Drilled rotors are produced in many different ways. The process to make a fine quality rotor is substantially different than what is used to make a poor quality specimen, and examples of each will be presented in this article.
Even though there are many different patterns of drilled brake rotors, what is important to focus on is the drill hole integrity. A ceramic drilled brake rotor can actually be cast at the factory as to eliminate drilling imperfections, but drilled rotor designs can still be created properly after casting with fine tools in cast iron as well.
Any imperfections in a brake rotor is subject to cracking when the brake rotor heats up and cools, so these drilled holes at the very least must be created with precision when added post-casting. When a brake rotor is drilled out manually, it often leaves the holes brittle at the edges. If you had a microscope, you could view these drilled edges to verify this. After the drill pattern is embedded in the brake rotor, the factory must use a special milling machine to file these edges down to be as smooth as possible.

If the manufacturer goes one step further to prevent these cracks, they will put on a special chamferingor edging on the drill holes to reduce wear points. Some manufactures simply use countersunk or radius edging to do this, however sinusoidal edging minimizes the stress points to a maximum level.

When I get time, I'll look for the reference on cast perforations. I'm pretty sure it was on the Daimler site.

Another supply story - I shopped at LazyBoy yesterday. Their special order furniture was just extended to 9 months out (getting worse). And my friend the Custom Home Audio/Security guy has just shut down completely because components are stuck on containers.
And did you know that OSB is now $27 per sheet?
Pandemics are definitely disputers.
I wonder when my Feb build will actually arrive.
The good thing is - I am starting to enjoy my old OBD1 go-to-the lumber yard pickup again.
And maybe I'll miss the need for winter tires for the 53!

See, out of the rubble grows a rose. Also you might not need AS tires this year. Here they adjust fees during the transfer of registration, you are lucky.

Got word from my SA yesterday on our 580 order (Jan. 13 was the replanned build date, not sure what actual was):
"your vehicle is at the VPC (vehicle processing center) Long Beach California. We expect arrival at the dealership in two weeks"

I think that’s right except for some overseas shipments, maybe W. Canada. Mine showed the Long Beach VPC but traveled from Vance by train to Salt Lake & then by truck.

Well today was a disappointing day. The 580 is on hold to see if they can fix the crappy leather.
Also, what pattern does your 580 have on the leather? I don’t remember a pebble look on the out side areas of the seats. What does it look like some of the others that have 2020s and 2021s?

We ordered the exclusive Nappa, the seats are smooth leather. My son has the standard leather which does have a pebble look. It shows up well in the configurator. I suppose you didn't like the Audi?

It must be hell at the plant right now...seats-batteries-seat belts-chips & who knows what else.

The Audi was very nice And is a great contender. It really was a hard decision with the MB just being a lot better at tech stuff in the car and a slight comfort advantage.
They are going to send the car to a local shop to see what they can do first with the seats. They really don’t have anyone at the service center to fix leather.
Fingers crossed.

Any pics? Do yours have a recessed area where you sit? Several brs9de mine had a depression right where the butt sits. My 450 didn’t. Looks like it might encourage stretching in that area.

No pics. I was so dumbfounded and pissed today that I forgot to take any.
I found this picture in the GLS section of a new 580 and I thought it had small problems too but not near as bad. I circled the small looking problems in red on this car and then the problem areas of the 580 I ordered in yellow (Remember the GLE has a center seat). The red areas do not look that bad but what was on mine looked worse. Mine were wrinkles like Ron.s showed on his 53. I even had a few areas on the front seats as well.

Mine has a few minor areas I suppose could be a bit better. I find the older I get the less I look for imperfections. All in all I am happy with the fit and finish. Shame to say that spending $100,000 on a car does not mean much these days.

I’m going to be really mean here and state this. The SQ7 didn’t have any visual problems that I noticed. We also looked at the interior of a new E and S class yesterday and the leather looked great. So, is it a supplier issue? Plant/Assembly location issue? Or just a quality control person issue at the end?
Am I pissed? Yes. Do I still want the 580? Yes. But we will see what happens.
