When we had our BMW (thankfully no more), we never experienced the 3 week failure. But we didnt use it alot anyway since the BMW idrive was probably the only great thing about the car and we didn't need carplay so we may have missed that. It was nice getting into the BMW and not having to plug the phone in everytime unless you did want to charge it. (Doesn't the GLE have a charging mat?) And what is this subscritpion cost? Has it chnaged? On our '18 I don't remember that or was it just something that is included when you first buy and I didn't keep the POS long of enough to find out. Yes the idrive was also slow to respond when you tried to have it do something when going through the phone as well but.........
I say all that in that it would be nice to have a way to use Carplay and not having to plug the phone in everytime. One less step. I have several short trips eevryday and it gets old having to plug the phone in all the time, in the GLE or E class. Plus, in our '19 E class the system in Carplay mode is just as slow and usually doesn't work the first time I try to get it to do anything anyway. Abut 50% of the time when you go to do something in Carplay it takes several times just to get it to change songs, enter a destination, or even move through the icons. So one less step I have to do in the car would be great. But these are small problems that I try to overlook.
OP, if you find out anything, let me know.
What we need is an automatic wireless connection that can be plugged in wired for longer trips. Make it BlueTooth or WiFi. One would have to think that’s being worked on by Apple and Google. Mercedes attempt to imitate isn’t going very well if my car is typical. After over 6 months there has been no improvement to the base Nav & Assistant, just more buggy. I don’t understand why the factory guys are fighting the integration. They would save development costs. I know they are all Leary of letting others in the system but Smert Phones are here to stay....and they will never be able to compete economically or with the resources of Apple & Google. Give Car Play/AAuto a blank monitor and a button or two and concentrate on the other Tech until you have a working alternative. I’m tired of being an unpaid Beta tester.
I really hope MB updates our Apple CarPlay experience. Frankly the current setup takes a lot away from the otherwise positive experience with MBUX.
Resolution is low, the apps aren't making use of the beautiful large screen, and having to plugin my phone is just a step back in this vehicle
Moreover the CarPlay setup with iOS 13 is much improved and we aren't getting that even though they demoed CarPlay on iOS 13 in a GLE!
Oh shoot I didn't even realize this, I assumed they just answered your post now hahaha.
Well I guess that sucks, especially because the A-class has it for example... annoying to say the least.
I will be swinging by the Service department today to pickup some wheel locks and I will ask if they know anything.
Well... the (5) 2020 A220's I have delivered in the last three weeks did not have Wireless CarPlay... so lIdon't think that web-rumor is going to happen....
I bought carlinkit T-box and been using it for almost a week now, I have 2020 A-Class, iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 13.3. Most of my CarPlay usage is Google Maps for traffic, Spotify, Siri reading my Calendar and phone calls.
Note that I'm not affiliated with carlinkitcarplay.com, I'm just simply sharing my experience.
Here are my thoughts and feedback:
1- Device connects via bluetooth and WiFi. The first setup, you will need to pair Bluetooth device and select the WiFi network, just like pairing any bluetooth device and like choosing any WiFi network. After that, it happens automatically. Once the car shows that the device is on and connected as CarPlay, it will take around 20 seconds for your iPhone to connect and start using CarPlay. But it connects automatically every time.
2- The Device itself has a USB port, so you still can connect your device through it to charge.
3- Once connected is works as if you're connected via cable, so you there is nothing changed in terms of user experience.
4- audit lag while playing videos like Youtube or Netflix. This issue that I will state now is not new and I personally don't think it's caused by carlinkit as the lag happens when connected via Bluetooth. Only via cable where the audio is perfectly sync with the video. I think it's an issue of iPhone+Mercedes Bluetooth Device, but I've reported the issue to developers and let's see if they can fix it.
5- Phone calls is great I didn't notice any difference, though the sound quality is always greater when connected via cable.
6- While listening to Spotify, I noticed a millisecond glitch in audio when switching apps, it rarely happens but I have to say that this also happens when I connect the iPhone via bluetooth too.
7- While I was waiting for the order to arrive, the developer kept emailing the user list about some issues people were facing with the device and they kept pushing firmware updates in the past few weeks (2 updates). It seems that some people were not able to connect the device or having issues using it. But for me I didn't face any problems yet.
8- The first firmware that was installed on the device had almost no GUI just a blank screen with a firmware version in the corner. The latest update that I've installed have a better GUI which you can see in the photos I've attached.
Overall, I'm happy with the device, I didn't get any major issues in this week, but I'll update this post if I think there is more to add.
Apparently MOST cars with Android Auto don't have wireless, enough for Motorola to market their own Wireless Dongle. $90, soon to be available if this source is correct. https://www.droid-life.com/2022/01/1...er-ships-soon/
I can see why they focused on Android first, since their transition to the new OS has been more stable than Apple's, and there are 2X more Androids than Apple phones.
FWIW I prefer wired. It sounds better, and Bluetooth for music, message and phone is already in the car without AA. Plus newer versions of Google Maps and Waze are on a downtrend. And I can play my downloaded tunes by accessing the files directly through MBUX, which I don't think you can do with AA.
With wired CarPlay when you are using navigation via the phone next turn details are displayed in the cars instrument panel and HUD. Wireless does not support this; it’s not Mercedes’ specific, my Porsche is the same.
Looking at the email exchange that you quoted, do you believe that Mercedes is using 🎉 and other emojis in their official communications?
Questionable, IMO.
