As for GLE vs. GLS, the difference in base price is really closer to $22k, between the GLE 350 and the GLS 450. If you want the AMG styling on the GLS, it's going to run you close to $100k for a base 580, which is still a good $15k-$20k more than a well-equipped GLE 450. Hard to say which will hold its value better, so I wouldn't base the choice between the two on resale value. The difference in price is significant enough that I'd really just consider how much car I need and my budget (I also happen to think the GLE with AMG styling looks better than either the GLS 450 or 580, but that's personal preference).

With a few additional options it was priced around $93k.
To get the 3rd row seating in the GLE would have been an
additional cost.. Not taking the AMG appearance packages it gets down to size - seats and cargo space. ‘I’m going to take the GLE rather than wait another 3 months on the GLS. If I had it to do over I would have ordered the GLS.

- BlueTec situation
- V8 head bolts
- V8 and V6 balance shaft experience
If the V167 launch is similar to any of the above, future resale values could follow a similar path as those examples.

Are you comparing a base GLS 450 to a loaded GLE 450? If that’s the case, my guess (and it is just a guess) is that the loaded GLE would have a higher resale value (in terms of percentage of the original cost) than a base GLS, even allowing that the base GLS has some standard equipment that are optional on the GLE.
Again, I’m sure the salesmen here can provide better insight than I can.

Trading the car while still under warranty will net you a benefit. Plus, I think that Mercedes will be more open to exterior trim warranty claims on these cars because so many of them have been sitting.
The GLS because of it's lower numbers and bigger size will always resell better(until the next gas crunch!). I'm amazed at how much the older ones still bring on trade.

I took it to a dealer with 24 payments left on the lease to see what it would cost to get our of the car. After just 10 minutes they said give us the keys and we will pay off the lease, no charge! Wait, what? " Yes, these cars are so hard to get we can sell it for original MSRP".
Gave them the keys 2 days later and walked away. Car had 11,000 miles on it.
