Window tint

The climate here does not benefit from tint so there is no reason to have it - unless you like its appearance.. We don't. Sadly for us, it is not possible to order a GLE with zero tint but the 450s and 350s we test drove were not as darkly tinted as some other makes. As silly as it may sound, that was a large factor in our decision to order a GLE 450. It had a bit lighter rear window tint than the Audi or BMW competition.

When we placed the order, we wanted noise insulating glass. In response to specific questions, our sales associate told us that this did not increase the level of tint so we ordered the option. Recently, we saw another GLE 450 with dark tint, and that has made us wonder if this was a function of having the insulating glass option. Has anyone been able to compare the tint level of cars with and without the noise insulating glass?

Hello..I have the noise reduction glass and a 20% tint; recently added. The car has always been quiet for us, and the added tint was strictly two fold; heat reduction and appearance
Looks fantastic

Beautiful ride. Exactly like I'm ordering mine. Still concerned about the ride on the 21s though, but they sure look great!

The 21s have as much sidewall as the 20s on the 2019 GLE. They ride fine, though I would suggest Airmatic for best ride and to be able to reduce the fender gap (I have E-ABC).

That front window tint looks great. Is it legal in NC? Also, when you say 20 percent tint, does that mean it allows 20 percent of available light in?

Thanks for the replies. Checked the car and the noise insulating glass does not affect tint, at least not to casual inspection.

Yes, that is the way tinting is specified.

Not casually, but even "clear" glass has a tint which reduces the visual transmission (VT), so two layers will transmit less than one.

I have changed the normal glasses of my GLE by insulating glasses. When I ordered the insulating glasses at the MB dealer (the fitting was made somewhere else), I nearly made a mistake and ordered insulating glasses without the tint! Indeed, the insulating glasses (MB code 596) are available with (MB code 840) or without the tint (at least for the rear glasses not for the front glasses)!

To me the level of tint is the same with or without the insulating glasses. It only depends if you have the tint option or not. Bearing in mind the fact that the tint, depending on the countries, may be an option or compulsory.
