Our MBUX Interior Assistant isn't functional. It is turned on in the MBUX system (including reading light). But no response to motions.
I read that, at least on some models, the eyeglass compartment is used for the camera location - bummer.
Does your eyeglass stowage look like this? The glare in the image is due to camera flash.
I suspect the "camera" is in the eyeglass compartment and is non optical. The manual warns about laser radiation from the camera.

I also read that on some models "it won't be available in US until Jan 2019".

Yes, no holder with the Assistant, and mine works perfectly. Brings up menu option when hand reaches for screen or touchpad, or turns on passenger seat light if you reach there. It was not available for a while, but don't know about current availability.
Its good news that it works. Guess I need to take it into the dealer for service.

No, I do not have a holder. If you have the eyeglass holder you do not have the Interior Assistant. Is DA0PKG on your spec sheet? Do you have the Head Up Display?

Correct - he just needs to remove the white protective covering, which was the dealer's job. The laser area is under that. Here is mine:
I’m happy I read this stuff. I just pulled the white plastic off the camera on my SUV. Now I feel a little dumb but not as much as the idiot who did the PDI. Tomorrow I will see how it works. I forgot I had that option.
I would be dropping an email to my salesman letting them know about this. Nothing gets the attention of the GM quicker than a sales associate reports of poor pre delivery prep making the entire organization look stupid. If nobody complains, it doesn't count.
When I ordered mine (March/April of 2019), they are short in parts for the interior assistance package (forgot the package name, but it is the DA0 package) so they have a separate option for the DA0 package rebuild with just the HUD and AR View for Navigation.
In June, the part is back in stock so I did add it back to my build.
As for the functionality, I like that it will turn on the lights when I reach out to the passenger side, and ability to turn on/off the map light with my hands under the mirror.
But, one down side is that it seems to register the "favorites" pose sometimes with just my hand moving near the AC control.

There were indeed cases where it was removed from orders. zengshengliu's info is correct.
OP said “early 2019 builds” and that would have been March-April maybe May. June is pushing it to be called “early”. I didn’t see any reports of it being removed then so stand corrected if there were some. In its present form it’s pretty much worthless, IMO. Reportedly it will be much improved in the new S Class with the ability to see that you are watching the road while using Distronic vs the steering wheel pressure with false readings on straight roads.
