Lug Socket

I know, and have read, that standards 6 point / hex sockets can be used on the MB lug bolts but cause damage. I would prefer to use the correct socket. Any good recommendations on where to acquire one? I don't want to get a random piece of junk off of Amazon.

A gaggle of MB's
Most MB Tech's use a 17mm spline socket...

This type of lug is not "new" ... so going back 10yrs there has been "over intensively" discussed .. yes the lug can be distorted by a over zealous impact driver.

This gives you the "correct" story and your choice of "correct" solutionL

The whole process can be helped a LOT by the use of a Lug Pin to hold wheel in position... Greg did a great job on having a supplier crank a correct Lug Pin.. do a forum search .. I bought 12 for my tech's..

You're welcome Terry. I always get the best tools possible regardless of cost. I still have Snap-On sockets I bought in college 50 years ago that are perfect.

And here is the M15x1.25 "wheel installation pin" for those interested:

is the "wheel pin" tool for those interested.

Now for the fun of actually finding a spline socket. All I can seem to find is off brand spline sockets, otherwise i find Craftsman universal sockets that claim they will work on spline.

The link fabbrisd1 posted above (which I also posted last May - https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post7762508) is a high quality Italian made socket that fits the Mercedes bolt head like a glove. Universal sockets will deform the head cover, which is quite thin.

I was trying to find something more local, since, like always, I always seem to look for it when I need it. Quality and fit is the most important. I'll order that one.

Thanks

Thanks
Ultimate Garage has good service, maybe not Prime fast, but you should have it in a few days.

Yeah, Steve has some unique and high end Euro tools (and also a very nice garage). Good resource to keep in mind for hard to find stuff.

I posted a very positive review for Steve when I had excellent experience with him like the other posters on this thread, and got a very nice note from him.

He and his products were a very nice find.

Thank you, yet again, Greg.
