All I know is that my car seems to have just plastic protective coverings and both your and my reply states that it should have metal coverings under the engine (at least).
Yes metal at front.

Will have to get the plastic cover off mine at some point to see if there’s anything metal under it.

If not I’ll have to get it booked in at some point for them to have a look!

The metal at the front is instead of plastic cover.

That’s what I thought from seeing your photos, but Mercedes said on the diesel the off road protection is above the cover.

I don’t think that’s correct but I’d best double check before taking it further.

Just had another email from customer services and this is what they’ve said:

Thank you for contacting Mercedes-Benz Customer Service.

We have contacted the Mercedes-Benz Technical Support Team in regards to your enquiry. They have advised that the standard equipment for the GLE includes a plastic undertray for the front and rear, however, the off road package also includes an underguard for the entire underbody. We would advised you to contact your local Mercedes-Benz Retailer to ensure that your vehicle is equipped as it is supposed to be.

I’ve managed to get the parts list for the off-road pack version of the underguard if anyone’s interested.

120 is the metal version and 130 is the plastic version so I’m told.

Managed to finally get hold of all the parts to add the underbody protection that comes with the off road pack.

The most obvious difference is the front undertray/sump guard which are now steel not plastic.

I was also sent some plastic side pieces that fit where I’ve circled in red, but I can’t seem to figure out how they fit.

The plastic that runs along the underside of the car are also different.

The ones I was sent are a thicker stronger plastic - it’s a shame these aren’t also metal.
