2020 GLE 350 cabin filter where is it
does anyone have a video of where the cabin filter is?

 

The filter is under the cover at the back of the engine compartment, passenger side. Cover releases with two thumb turn fasteners. Inside cover over filter releases by pushing two tabs at the top.

That is the pre-filter the main charcoal cabin filter is under the glove compartment. You have to remove a clip, the panel, disconnect light and unlock the filter door.

 

Since I’m picking up my GLE tomorrow and didn’t add the option for the air balance package have it on my GLC don’t think it’s worth it losing almost half the space in glove box wanted to know does it still have 2 cabin air filters one under hood other behind glove box if you don’t have the air balance package? Or just one main charcoal filter?

 

I think they all come with one under the hood and one under the glovebox regardless of air balance.

Does anyone have part numbers for the 2 cabin air filters? I read somewhere that it was the same as the 2019 GLE but wanted to confirm.
for 2019 the cabin air filter is 166-830-72-01 and 166-830-02-18 for the "pre" filter I beileve.

This might be a dumb question but does service A or B cover cabin filter replacement? I'm wondering because some of you are asking where the filter is so I'm assuming you want to change it yourselves? I don't mind changing the cabin filter myself either as it's fairly simple but if it's covered under service A or B, I'd rather have the dealer do it.

 

Service B should cover it.

 

In my opinion 2 years is to long to wait. They get dirty pretty quick.
I replace what I can by myself cabin filters in all cars with service A

 

It really depends on your driving conditions and mileage. I find two years is okay on ours.

One filter, A 167 835 02 00 (Mann). Was $22.50 at my B Service in April.

That must be what is commonly referred to as the Microfilter, the other one I listed is the Prefilter. I've looked at that area and not sure how you access it. Anyway, from my B Service invoice: 167-835-04-00 Fine Particle Filter, $65.00.

 

After tons and tons of searching, I've solved the cabin air filter question for my 2020 GLE350 (should also apply to the 450).

First off, there are definitely two separate filters that are used in the HVAC system.

The first pre-filter or dust filter is located under the hood on the left-rear side of the engine compartment. The MB part number for this filter is 167-835-02-00 and is available for $20-$25 in numerous places. This is a very simple, small filter that is square and just cleans the initial dust from the outside air. Numerous other posts here and online show how to change it...its a 5 minute job, no tools needed.

The second, internal filter is actually called a "Fine Particle Filter" by Mercedes and it is much larger with impregnated charcoal and the MB part number for it is 167-835-04-00 and is available for $40-$65 in numerous places. This filter is a square shape that has one corner cut off at a 45 degree angle. It's much larger, thicker and heavier than the other pre-filter.

The installation of this second, internal filter must be some top-secret info held in a vault at Mercedes HQ as it is nowhere to be found (unless you happen to know a MB certified technician). The good news is that it is very easy to do. Here is a link to a video of a guy changing out his internal cabin filter on a GLS...the filter and panel are almost identical and his tips all apply... The best news is that there are no screws or fasteners on the footwell panel on the GLE. There are 2 push-clips along the edge of the panel closest to the glovebox door that need to disconnected and there are no tools required at all. As the guy in the video says, start by removing the right side first. Simply reach up into one of the small vent holes on the far right side of the panel and pull down on the panel and the far right snap-clip will disengage. Pull that side of the panel down about 2-3 inches and you'll see the power wire going to the footwell light. Unplug the blue connector from the light. Now pull down on the left side of the panel using one of the vent holes to disengage the left side snap-clip. At this point, everything is disconnected so you just have to wiggle the panel a little to get it out. As in the video, it helps to push the left side up and back while pulling the right side down...then the panel pops out very easily. Now you can simply follow the video on removing the filter. Take note of needing to pull the carpeting down on the left side of the footwell to give enough clearance to remove the left side of the filter door. The filter itself slides out with ease and reverse the steps to put is all back together. I was shocked at how quick and easy this was...it literally took me 15-20 minutes and I was being super careful to not pull on anything too hard and break any plastic parts or clips.

I hope this helps and kudos to the guy who posted the GLS video on youtube as it was the critical piece of info needed to solve this mystery.

 

Just FYI...tist filter picture is showing the filter in the wrong orientation. The airflow on the outside filter is from the bottom up on the 2020 GLE's.

 

V167 now uses the same filter location procedure as BMW. MB takes a while to learn how to do things right.

You make some good posts once in a while, but your continual little digs at Mercedes have gotten really old and seem a bit childish. Obviously they serve no purpose here but to fulfill whatever perverse need you have to be contrary.
