BMW X5/ X5M competition vs GLE 580/63

Hi All,
I currently have a GLS 63, (2018) but looking at a few vehicles. One being the GLS 63 , I was looking at the x7 but no full M package , the new bentayga and urus ( leaning away from these since I really don’t want to spend that ) the g63 but haven’t seen one yet. I don’t exactly need 3 rows of seats. My wife has the new gle so I felt the gls might be to similar. My question is , has anyone test drove the new x5m or the new x5 in general? Curious what you guys think between the gle/ gls and that. Luxury drive ect. I am debating on the x5m. I also considered the gls maybach but again it’s more or less dressed up.

What about the new Audi SQ8 or the RS Q8. I would throw those in the mix too.

GLE580
I have a 2020 X5 M50i and wife has 2020 GLE 580.

Previous to the GLE, my wife has had 2009, 2011, 2014 X5 diesels, 2016 Cayenne E Hybrid, and most recently 2019 E450 Wagon.

I went from the 2013 Cayenne diesel, 2014 X5 diesel, 2016 Cayenne E Hybrid, 2018 C43, 2017 X5 40e, 2019 640 GT.

We were a more BMW family, with a little Porsche mixed in. However, after the C43 we started to seriously look at Mercedes. A good friend of mine raved about the 2020 GLE 350, until Mercedes bought it back. So after deciding the wagon was too small, we decided to look at SUV’s. Porsche’s do not lease well; therefore we looked at the GLE for her.

While the vehicles are similar in size IMO they offer very different experiences. The GLE is tuned for a more luxurious, softer ride. We love the MBUX info system and the HUD display. The rear seat is spacious, we have the 3rd row option and that offers more adjustments for the 2nd row.

The X5 M50i, is a sports car that sits high. The engine, suspension, exhaust, and. brakes are tuned for sport. The fit and finish is 1st class. The Infotainment system does not compete with the Benz. On paper even though they have similar dimensions, the BMW cabin is smaller than the Benz, the GLE has better interior packaging.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I like a firm suspension and handling; therefore for me the BMW is the vehicle of choice.

please excuse any typos

CarMan50 said what I have always said. BMW (M) has a race car that they have tried to make into a luxury car. MB (AMG) has a luxury car that they put a race engine in. Personally I think luxury is harder to do so therefore MB does it better. Case in point: even Dodge can make a car go fast. Just my $.02.

thanks for the detailed information. Since we have a gle I just feel like having a gls 63 or gls 600 might be to similar. Now is it to firm for city driving where you’ll want to get out of it ?

amg is great. However, I feel the luxury in the trucks just isn’t the same as the cars
