Miles Per Gallon

About 1,000 miles into a 2020 GLE 350 4 Matic. Mileage readouts in car show over 22 MPG and improving, all this is city driving with COVID-19.
It looks to me when normal expressway driving resumes, overall average mileage is going to be 24-25 MPG. This is better than I expected.
I do drive in comfort mode and eco mode so far. My previous 2016 GLE-350 4 Matic was 20 MPG, so I am pleased so far with the new 2020 vehicle MPG.
I welcome other thoughts.

On a run down I-81 to Winchester last weekend, I had the real time consumption display up on the main screen. All highway with the cruise set at 75 I was getting 26 mpg. I filled the tank and reset the trip odometer so I can get a more accurate mpg figure the next time I get gas. I’m going to stick with 93 octane for the first couple thousand miles, then will do the same with 89 and 87 to develop a decent idea of what offers the best efficiency. I’ll post back here with real numbers as time goes on.

These numbers are pretty impressive. I've been averaging around 18mpg in city driving on the GLE450. Which is actually very good for a car of this size. On my Panamera I have been getting 42mpg which is insane for a 4.0 Twin Turbo V8. It just shows the power of hybrid technology.

My fuel mileage is great. Best ever!
Then again, it has to be since I'm not even driving as my wife and I have been working from home for the last 5-6 weeks.
Even my insurance company is reducing premiums for the next 3 months.
You guys might want to look into that. Why not save money where you can, am I right?

How much of a discount did you get? MY insurer is discounting 30% per month during the pandemic lockdown.

That's really good. My insurer is only offering 10% off. But hey, it's better than a slap in the face, I guess.

Based on this, it seems between GLE 350 & GLE 450, their is not much difference, but you do get bigger engine.

Can’t tell much from 10 miles at 24 mph average. The 4 will definitely get better mileage on the highway, unless towing.

Keep in mind that the 450 with the 48v system has a coasting capability when in Economy mode. It works extremely well and is unnoticeable engaging and disengaging. Suts the engine down and disengages the transmission. This should be a decent benefit to MPG. I got 26.1 MPG for a 25 mile trip with avg speed at 27MPH. Keep in mid when avg speed is low it reflects city driving which is usually the least efficient. Love this motor...great technology

You don't show a location. is that US or Imperial MPG. There is a 20 percent difference in the larger Imperial Gallon.

Here’s my GLE 450 mileage for April. It’s a little lower than normal because 1300 of those miles were at 85mph freeway and probably 150 of towing. I regularly get 23-24 on a trip through Nevada at 70-80 on a two lane road with quite a bit of passing. Couldn’t be more pleased with mileage.

The GLE 350 will also coast in Eco mode (engine disengaged from transmission, idling), but it will not "sail" (coast with the engine off). However, being able to shut the engine off at stop lights has the biggest impact on my around town MPG. Once the engine is warm, this Spring (with the mild temps) I regularly see 26 MPG trip averages around town on the trip page of my "me Connect" app -- that's about 5 MPG better than in my QX60 Hybrid. I'm sure the City MPG will reduce this summer with more A/C cooling load -- I would expect the 450 to have more of an advantage in hot climates.

Overall though, I too have been extremely pleased with the efficiency of the GLE 350. I can easily attain 27 MPG on the Hwy at speeds up to 75 MPH.

Just finished a 500 mile trip and managed to get 26mpg with the gle450 and using cruise control set to 70 the entire way. This is with the suv loaded with an extra 400 pounds of gear. I think I could even get better if I was more active with the pedal instead of using cruise control.

Cruse control is programmed to maximize fuel efficiency.

On flat open highway yes, but on hilly or mountain terrain, trying to maintain a constant speed won’t always get you the best fuel economy.
