Our 450 has EABC but not the offroad package. Recently, my wife has complained that the ride has become harsh. I am not too sensitive to these things but it does seem different to me also. Air suspension is working, and raises and lowers on command. However, the offroad assistant shows as "Function unavailable". Yes, I have set all the preconditions as specified in the manual. I have tried every combination of settings (N, D, +1 level, -1 level, etc.) but nothing brings that offroad assistant to life. Any ideas?

Seems like if there were a system fault you would get an error message. There are so many preconditions it would be easy to miss one.
Thanks for the replies. My vehicle does not have the offroad package so I cannot first set offroad mode. All of those other preconditions are met, and I have futzed about with varying them.
What I don't know, because Mercedes has no helpful status summary, is whether the fault is in EABC, in the offroad assistant, or in one of the sensors that tells the car if it is outside, if the voltage is too low, or whatever. I have a call into service but who knows where they are these days.
You don't need the offroad package to have the offroad mode. The offroad+ is what the offroad package offer. The normal offroad mode is available on all others. I have the same car as you (450 with E-ABC) and it does have the offroad mode.

If you have E-ABC then you have the Offroad drive program. You access it through the Dynamic Select toggle switch on the console
Got it. Somehow I was missing selecting the off road item from the Dynamic Select menu. Thanks for the instructions.
However, I remain confused about the harsh ride. Is it a real thing or not? Sometimes the car feels very smooth. At others it feels harsh. Checking the ride mode, it is comfort.
Anyone else experienced variable ride quality with EABC?
For myself, the E-ABC does smooth out a lot of uneven road, but the 21" tires that I have is not helping in that sense. But, when comparing to my old Nissan, it is definitely much better.
Ride quality is really depend on your suspension setup, tires size and style (run flat?), and personal preferences (especially when comparing to another vehicle). It also depends on the road condition too. No suspension can help with potholes.

My E-ABC is very plush in Comfort mode, even with 21s. Never harsh.
