Angry 2020 GLE 450 Snow Tire Issues

We purchased a 2020 GLE 450 with the optional 21" wheel package.

We put Pirelli Scorpion Winter 275/45R21 110V XL on the front and 315/40R21 111V on the rear.

My wife is not a aggressive driver, she didnt even know how to switch it into sport mode.

She drove less than 5,000 miles in the snow this winter and the rear tires were so worn out the tire guy said we can't use them again next year. I believe I paid somewhere between $1,500 and $2,000 for the tires with mount and balancing.

I can't believe I only got 5,000 miles out of a set of tires that are so pricey. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Nick

What does worn out mean? Were there chunks of rubber missing? Was there uneven wear on certain parts of the tire? Do you have pics of the wear?

I hate Pirelli!!! Usually no warranty with winters but they might because they are “performance” winter?

I learned my lesson years ago with P3's. I've also had interaction on a business relationship with Pirelli USA down south. I'll never do business with them again as long as I live. I do not hesitate to tell everyone I know about my experiences when the topic of tires comes up.

I assume it’s tread-wear causing the replacement recommendation. Try the new Michelin Winter-Pilot alpin pa5 suv tire. They are the best overall winter tire available, IMO. I have well over 6,000 on mine and they still look like new. 2-3000 miles are Freeway driving at 80mph+.
They are a quiet tire, great on ice & wet hard pack snow...also designed for less hydroplaning. If you are switching back and forth on factory wheels they may not have an exact match for 21’s but I bought 20” wheels from Tire Rack and have OEM tire exact match. There is a thread on winter tires and wheels with a lot of information on this Forum....

Edit: Bought mine at Costco with a big discount $1238 installed. These are my wheels with Mercedes center caps I bought on Amazon.

I agree with Ron.s on the Michelins. For better cost effectiveness and performance most go with a second set of rims that are same size front & rear. You can live with the difference in offset, or get spacers and extended lugs for the rear like I did.
