Dealer Swap Question

In the midst of a quandary over a GLC350e that I ordered and honestly not even my sales rep knows whether this order can be produced. With declining inventories and uncertain production, thinking now about trying to snag a car from stock and am even rethinking whether I prefer a GLE350 (wife has sublimated her objections to the larger truck). My dealer does not have a GLE as I want it equipped but several do exist within a reasonable distance. How amenable are Mercedes dealers to swaps with other dealers? I know when we bought my wife's Kia plug-in, there were only two dealers within 250 miles that had them in stock and they would not swap with our dealer of choice. Would I find a similar situation with 350's? I am certain 450's would be out of the question but there does seem to be a supply of 350's. I have 4 more months on my current lease but hopefully could work out that extra month with MBFS. I would have some concerns at this point about ordering a 2021 GLE with current uncertainties.

Normally most will swap but this isn’t normally. Might depend on what your dealer has coming and when. Then might cost a little more. The only way to find out is to ask your dealer, IMO.

Right now, a trade is possible only if your dealer has a similar GLE to trade for the one you want. With the disruption in production no cars are being shipped from AL. So no one is willing to take a future car for one now.

2020 GLE
Getting a dealer to swap cars may prove difficult since they could just sell local. Don't be afraid to purchase the car outright and have it shipped to you if needed.

1st - your 4mo on your Mercedes now will be credited by Mercedes Financial when you move up..

Close the deal with the closest dealer by phone/email - happens all the time - don't waste time or the GLE you want "now" - boom, will be gone.

You're a decent guy.. it will be smooth..

Well, bottom line here. Gave up on the GLC350e. EPA certification unknown. Dealer has not received any allocations for them and has no idea when they might receive next. So no idea when it would be built. Only one car in the VPC hit my specs and it was a special order. There are very few MY20 GLE350 to be found and hardly any equipped the way I want. Either too basic or with options I don't care about. So placed order today for 2021 GLE350W4. We have a last decade August build slot. Seems that first MY21 slots were 3rd decade August. First two August decades still 2020. Hopefully all will be relatively smooth with Vance and supply chain by then. I could have gotten a slot for MY20 GLC300 in August but I really wanted a GLE to begin with. The funny part-- since there was no official pricing in the system, the Netstar configurator printed out the build with a price of 112,095. That was 111,111 for vehicle and 1095 destination delivery (up from $995-- guess they can raise destination charge since fuel prices are down). And he said in a very straight voice-- yes, you owe us $112,095. The blood drained from wife's face. We did let the charade going a little long, though. But I'm making her filet mignon with wine sauce tonight and will get a nice red wine out of the cellar. That should make things better.

Thanks to all for the help and to fabbrisd1 for the reality check!

The MB system shows a $99,999 base price before official MSRP is announced - and also the Build/Spec sheet shows "Subject to change without prior notice" until the official MSRP and official option prices are posted - you can "assume" 3-4% higher Base MSRP than if you plugged in the 2020 Base MSRP - if all the 2021 Options show prices now.

Good solid work - because you end up having the MB you really will enjoy !

Thanks! Now it's just nagging my patient rep for periodic Netstar print outs.

‘The boys making up the online Configurator are just having fun....the AMG model starts at over $300k. I guess it’s their way of making sure that no one will complain when the actual MSRP is announced.

Well... my MY21 GLE350 order even better than hoped. Got a 3rd decade Aug build. Obviously all is contingent upon supply chain, Vance ramping up and pandemic. This is supposedly the first decade of MY21 production.
