(I’m out looking to see if I want to keep my 580)

The current seat choices might be limited by the complexity of the seat itself coupled with supply chain difficulties. That and Mercedes can’t keep up with demand for the GLE. Suppliers seem to be having trouble keeping up with other components also, bumpers and ignition coils were recently mentioned.
At intro Mercedes had to change suppliers of the seats because they couldn’t deliver sufficient quantities in a timely fashion. Word was that it was more complicated, took longer, than they had anticipated. Seat shortages were one of the items that resulted in the large number of GLE’s built and stored waiting for parts last year. Because of Covid there might also be supply issues on leather. Recent intro of the AMG lines have added more colors and premium leather so that could stretch resources even more.
IMO, Mercedes will increase leather options but maybe not soon enough and with enough color choices to satisfy everyone. Each color and each different material added results in an increase in inventory of what could be a limited supply. Lead times for leather orders are significant-maybe closer to a year than a few weeks.

I can live with the plastic buttons. At this point, I just want my car!

I prefer the black buttons because the match the top buttons for air and heat systems.

I bet it's just another cost-cutting measure. Piano black with metal/chrome is probably more expensive than purely plastic.

The existing buttons are plastic, just gloss finish instead of matte. I think the old ones look a little classier, but do show fingerprints, which is probably the reason for the change. Looks like the panel above with the toggles (AC, etc.) is still gloss, though?

looks like AMG sports brakes ain’t an option anymore to upgrade. Unless it’s hidden somewhere.

Yes, and it is totally %$&@#ed UP, as usual. I just tried six times to build a GLE450 and each time it crapped out. MBUSA has no shame and their IT department SUCKS!

Look at the bottom description for amg night package rims and tires....
20-inch AMG twin 5-spoke wheels w/black accents

The inlays of the iconic 20-inch AMG® wheels are painted Gloss Black, setting off the shimmering surfaces and providing an ideal complement to the high-contrast trim of the Night Package. All-season 275/50R15 tires are fitted.

I ordered the same interior seats in June and no word from dealer. Would love to see your seats when you get the car.

Received similar report off computer where VIN has now been assigned to my 2021 GLE53W4. How long does it usually take from the point the VIN# has been designated. The code was IP as in production? Many thanks.

Tesla Model S, Porsche 718 Boxster, Ordered 2021 GLE 53 AMG
I have a GLE53 AMG on order as well. Ordered in June 2020. It was built on 18 Aug and received by Alabama VPC on 20 Aug. It was sitting there till 21 Sep waiting for some missing parts. I believe it's finally ready to be sent by rail to Portland VPC, from where it will loaded on a truck and delivered to my MB dealer in Seattle. I expect to get the vehicle by End of Oct.
So my assessment is, once the production is complete, it can take anywhere between 1 month - 3 months to get the car delivered.

My 21 GLE53 was built the first decade of July. I got it Sept.3rd. There was a certification hold up. Usual transit time should not exceed 30 day’s for N/A delivery. Of course these are not normal times and completed vehicles can be delayed by supplier shortages. That said, this new GLE is worth the wait. I could not be happier with mine.

In touch with my SA today. Production still scheduled next week but he indicated that they have yet to receive a GLE350/450. Seems there are a number that get held up for parts so the best he can do is keep in touch. He did have a build sheet with pricing (same as on MBUSA configurator). I had not ordered the wheel locking bolts but certainly will not argue over a $150 list price item. The GLC will still go back 10/20 at lease maturity date and MBFS says there is a 60 day grace period for waiver of lease disposition fee and $500 damage credit.

My other option would be a BMW X5 45e plug-in and they are scarce with few allocations. But I will stick with the GLE unless it appears that they absolutely cannot produce the car.

Crappy deal when you get the factory running and then the Supply Chain has hiccups. Sourcing from so many different regions might make the Covid factor more of an unknown as Countries infections peak at different times.
My build is scheduled for week after next and I am expecting it to be delayed. Nothing worse than waiting and waiting only to almost get there and then......
