Useless & Tacky

Anyone else find this a huge eyesore on a luxury car? Why couldn’t they make it another vent or something useful? I

Yes, one of several reasons I would never consider a GLE or GLS. It's a stupid detail, never would have thought MB would be installing fake vents int he cars.

I don't see the issue. I think it is an elegant solution.

Solution is the key word. There should be no need for one. The best or nothing, right?

This place is a joke.
Does it have the fake exhaust tips to match like the 2020 CLA and A class?

This sounds like a well thought out consideration to avoid spending $70K to $100K and more for a luxury vehicle. You may want to check out KIA. I believe all their air conditioning vents are “real”.

at least on the gle350, yes. the two chrome "tips" you see on the rear bumpers, they are solid.

Pretty sad when KIA is mentioned in the same reference as a Mercedes. Been driving Mercedes cars for over 25 years and never seen anything like it before. Fake vents, seriously? Why not just integrate the entire screen into the dash like Porsche does or even Bentley? That would be the elegant solution.

To be fair to KIA, they are excellent vehicles. I had a 2014 SXT for a few years and it was an outstanding vehicle at a great price.

I will say it doesn't look like a fake vent......but having the tablet screen glued on over it does look cheapish and unlike the MB we're all used to.

No troll, just replying to the OP. I agreed, it does look cheap and tacky. I think Mercedes has really compromised on the quality of some of its interiors in recent releases and I'm expressing that. An integrated screen would have been better. If you like it, good for you, I don't. By all means feel free to either block me or ignore if you think I'm a troll, no worries here. Cheers.

I actually like the symmetrical look. Think of them as symmetrical design elements flanking the sides of the screen. and then MB dual purposed one of them as a vent.

MB is making garbage, comparatively, vs what they made twenty years ago. Too many examples to list.

Yes. Complete deviation. The things that people find acceptable in today's Mercedes cars is laughable.

You don’t have the GLE, a vehicle that we have and purchased bcuz we actually love it. Yet, you joint a group that is based on the ownership of the vehicle and give your inputs! I call that a troll. You dnt have the car and you dnt like it, then go and join the group of a car that you actually own. Blogs like this are meant for education and resources for current owners, that disqualifies you! Any opinion that you may have is completely irrelevant.

So the OP starts a thread about a "useless and tacky" detail in a vehicle that you own. A few people chime in that they don't like it, I am one of them. The you take it upon yourself to call me a troll and make an issue over a forum that in addition to educating and sharing resources and information is to also share opinions and provide feedback. If you want to disqualify me please do so. I you want to render my opinion irrelevant please do so. As a life long MB customer with a long purchase history I will continue to provide my opinions. Cheers.

The vent is a dummy because there are four “real” vents just underneath. To make the upper vent functional would be redundant and unnecessary. IMHO Mercedes did a good job in camouflaging the dummy vent so it looked real and balanced out. To suggest that they did this to cheapen the vehicle is asinine. To make a big statement about it, the overall quality of the car, the trend towards cheapening the product, etc. is just plain stupid.

Anytime you try and make something in a luxury product "look real" it's a fail. What's next, fake wood and fake carbon fiber to "balance things" out? A fake vent in a 70-100K vehicle? No way.

I think that's a large part of it. So many new Benz owners have no point of reference.

What you are refering to comes with most brands.
For example my E39 2001 bmw was a lot bettter than a modern 5 series.
