A New Twist On Sleepy Keyfob

I've been plagued with the need to shake the fob in my pocket (no wocket jokes) before I can open the car. It's become habit but still an annoyance. Well after reading here that another member had his keyfobs replaced with a new version under warranty, I called to make an appointment. I was surprised they wanted the car for a day but hey whatever...I get a free wash and vacuum out of it. Well to my surprise the fix was not a new set of fobs but a software update. I made a few stops on the way home and preliminary results are promising. Attached is the work order.

You could have the same issue as others (including me).
What happen is, when you take the key out of your pocket, it might move enough that it wakes the key up. But, the issue (at least for me) is that the key shouldn't go to sleep mode so early. I tested myself, and my old key goes to sleep just after 5 minutes of using. That mean most of the time after any amount of driving, the door sensor wouldn't work on locking the door until I wake the key up (by shaking it).
So far (only 2 drives) after the key replacement, I haven't have to shake the key to wake it up and lock the door, so I believe the replacement key does solve the "sleep too early" issue.

They did that software update to my Fobs and all it did was make the worst functioning Fob work a little better. Neither worked properly until they replaced them. I hope it works for yours and it might because there are some older Fobs that work.

Thanks for the info Ron. I understand MB will make the dealer go through the motions before replacing them...I can be a pest.

I picked up my two replacements today and they are acting exactly as my original. Still same problem. For all I know it's just two of the same keys...my dealer continues to tell me I'm the only one with this issue.

On my invoice, it shows that there is a LI document for it (not sure what it means). I assume its referencing some kind of internal document that MB has, which means it is a known issue.

Also, both of my key has a different part number than Ron on his post.
The new one is A1779057104 (old key has A1779052203)
Part number according to Ron post: A1679051704
