are there apps for MBUX like CarPlay apps? How do I set up that TuneIn? There’s probably so many things in this car that I have no idea about.

Can you get the MBUX system with the High End Burmester 3D system on the 2020 GLE? Seems like you have to remove the MBUX to add the High End Burmester system when configuring your car online.

I have Burmester but it’s not the highest end one.

MBUX is software running on those 2 screens, you cannot add it or remove it. There are options such as Augmented Reality navigation that can be added but MBUX itself is included by default.

One question what is the source?
I have GLC350 with Burmester and use memory with MP3 320 bitrates. Sounds quality probably better vs my old ML 350 with KH Logic 7.

HD Radio or Satellite Radio cant get you all bitrates. If you want to hear real cool sound try to use DTS Audio disc.

If by Satellite Radio you mean XM, there is no quality there. I think the bitrate on XM is like 64 kbps and it sounds like *****.

Yes, I think all of them not that grade.
My point was the source, if the source has quality audio system sound is perfect.

100% Agree. My 2017 E class with Burmester sounds nothing like this. There is absolutely no clarity or detail in the EQ settings. Sounds as if something is covering the mid and tweeter. Watching Movies USB truly reveals how bad the sound is. Subs sound like there playing at 250hz imo should be at 150hz. Still doesn’t explain the lack of detail in door speakers unless these are just Standard COVID emergency speakers behind a Burmester grills. May add a 100Hz passive resistor to the 2 subs speaker lines to stop this muddy thumping. BTW none of the loaner GLC’s I’ve had sounded like this. Hopefully we have a burn in period on the drivers. 🙏🏾

Setting the Focus to Rear strangely improved the mono sound and leaving EQ at 1, -0-, 3 Suround On

C63s Burmester upgraded with Helix Match UP7DSP/Amp

Location: Perth, Australia

We have recently performed a Stage 1 upgrade to a 2016 C63s with the Burmester 9 speaker system. Essentially, we wanted more control, a bit more power, and "tuneability". The process was fairly straight forward and the results are pretty impressive.

Basically, we took the MOST150 signal from the Burmester Amp and re-routed it through a NAVTV Zen-M MOST Connector (https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/h...s/nav-tv-zen-m). From there we use the TOS-Link optical stereo output and connected it to the Helix Match UP7DSP/Amp. Then connect the 7 channels back into the OEM speaker loom (minus the rear surround speakers. Helix do a V TWELVE DSP/ 12 channel amp but its potentially over-kill unless you are doing some significant speaker upgrades)

From a power perspective, this is a little more than twice the power of the Burmester amplifier (which is 7 x 50w, plus 2 x 120w for the footwell woofers) compared to the UP7 (which is 5 x 75w RMS / 150w Max, plus 2 x 160w RMS / 320w Max for the footwell woofers).

From a DSP processing and control perspective, this is a brand new system. A much punchier, smoother bottom end, crisper less harsh mids, and a detailed top-end minus the ear-ache. It's pretty loud as well at around 100dB.

I did a lot of reading through these forums and can see that this may be a good option for those less than impressed with the Burmester (or other factory systems) upgrade.

Install time was about 4 hours and so far we have done two full tunes and about 2 hours each. Each time, improving our results.

Cheers. Ben

This sounds really fantastic Ben, and thank so much for sharing the info. I wish you'd done a step-by-step with photos since I'd be interested in replicating and cannot ship my car to you in Perth (incidentally, what a great city you live in)

Perhaps if you ever perform this mod on a GLE you might document the process?

Is it possible to buy MB parts and add the HighEnd 3D system?

I use Spotify premium, and save my favorites to my iPhone using the highest bit rate. I also connect using the USB port, I've found that makes a big difference!
As noted above. Most digital mediums compress the music in order to save storage or bandwidth space. They are actually cutting out parts of the music. If you want high quality sound, Spotify Premium, Tidal Music or CD player will give you the full dynamic range. HD radio is also better than a regular FM source. I listen to XM radio for sports and news only. Music on XM is substantially compressed and sounds terrible, its like listening to mono since there is not much stereo separation. iTunes or bluetooth over your phone is one of the worst ways to listen to music if you want high fidelity.

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but the High End Burmester 3D Sound System is no longer an option in the GLE for 2021. Doesn’t look like it is available in the GLS either. If it is standard in the ridiculous Maybach SUV, they say nothing about it on the MBUSA website.

I agree about your source comments. Recently, however, the Bluetooth codec allows a much better sound transmission, so it's not horrible. Then there's the sound section of your Smart Phone, which also limits sound quality. Not anywhere as bad as Sirius/XM, but noticeable when comparing phones.

On the standard Burmester, to my ears, I can't really hear the difference between MP3 (compressed) or FLAC / CD (uncompressed). I definitely CAN tell the difference with the High End 3D Burmester.

I also find the "tone controls" to actually DO something on the 3D, where they just seem to move the dropouts (parts of the sound spectrum where there is no sound) around. It's like the base Burmester speakers are out of phase.

As far as listening goes, if you can hear the difference between codecs, you have a pretty fine car audio system. I'd put the High End 3D in that category.

Trying to figure out how to turn off the speed compensated volume on my GLE450. I HATE THAT! Most cars allow you to adjust that volume compensation or turn it off completely. It is very annoying to have the volume of the radio change between slow and fast speed. Let me make the decision what the volume should be. Anyone know how to do that? I have tried all the settings, but have not found a way to turn off that "feature".

I’ve had the Burmester system in 3 MBs now- 2015 C Class, 2018 E Class (sounded best) and now the nicest car of all, my 2021 GLE. I can’t believe how poor this system sounds in the GLE. I really hope it gets better but it actually sounds like something is wrong with it. It’s so shallow and sounds like it’s only coming from the front. I’ve played with all of the settings.

This really is amazing, isn’t it? HOW long have high end audio systems been available in vehicles and they STILL get so many of them wrong! Over on the R231 SL forums, they talk about the horrible systems used in ALL SL’s built between 2013 and 2020, NEVER fixing the massive problems with the basic design, throughout the entire model run. Are you sure? I just ordered a GLE53 w/ the High End Burmester 3D Sound System option, but I'm in Canada.

I have the same issue, the sound is so flat on GLE450 4matic. I have driven only 500 miles. My friend has BMW X5 40i 2019 and the sound is incredible. I wish I could have checked it before leasing.

So - the odd thing is that I had an MBUX software update a few months back - and the "standard" Burmester seems to sound better after that. (Or I am just used to it now...)
