Better quality carpet is what would have prevented it happening in the first place.

never had this problem with any other vehicle.

Mercedes used to have foot rests on all their vehicles. Interesting they went cheap here too. Seems you need to buy the higher line rides to get the true luxury experience and a properly built vehicle.

i imagine that means taking most of the interior out and to be totally honest, I doubt the dealer would replace it to a factory standard.

This. This is something the dealer would likely source out anyway. Body shop? Even if they do it, will it be done properly? What a mess. These GLE's really lack any quality.

They will order a factory replacement carpet and the install is not that complicated. What other alternative is there but to cover it up with a mat or AMG footrest?

Is that an OEM carpet mat you have? Ours, which say AMG on them, have a piece that covers this area. No sign of wear after 12,000 miles. You are probably unconsciously digging your shoe into this area frequently while driving. I agree the carpet is of marginal quality, but if replaced it will probably just happen again unless you cover it or change your habits.

Mine came with two sets of mats-Carpet and All Seasons. I didn’t order them so maybe the Dealer comped a set but they didn’t mention it so I’m thinking someone at the Factory made a mistake.
How long are they going to let the mess go on in downtown Portland?🤐 I wish someone would fix the Coastal State problems....too many people are moving here from Cali, Oregon & Washington. Even lots of BLM protestors are traveling here but the Police are not letting any violence start. They have arrested anyone out of line-protestors and counter protesters.

Mine has the same piece but on OP's pic it seems that the issue is on the side, so a cover won't protect that

The thickness of the mat at the footrest would move the contact point up from the crease in the carpet, which is its weakest point, so I think it would help some. However, the OP might need to analyze and change his habits.

I agree, my OEM mats cover that area just like yours. OP needs to have Mercedes to replace the carpet on the drivers side (I also agree that isn't difficult--they will just order the pre-cut carpet from the supplier on warranty repair, and the supplier will eat the cost as a defect). I also recommend OP consider purchasing weathertech floor mats to cover the area and prevent additional wear in the future.

I have a similar threadbare on the driver side, somewhere in the middle of the carper. Just noticed yesterday after removing the floor mat for vacuuming. The car is few months old, it must be from factory.

Similar story as on the W166. My OEM velour mat has a hole in it under the accelerator pedal heel location. After around 10k miles. Mercedes continues to trend toward producing expensive garbage.
