C&D review of Genesis GV80
After much delay, the long awaited Genesis GV80 will be hitting showrooms very soon. I found this review to be very interesting. Say what you will about the exterior styling, but I believe the interior puts most luxury makers of SUV’s to shame. The first photo is their “base” interior. The one below, is for their upper models. I’m not a huge fan of the way they positioned the infotainment screen, but the rest of the interiors I feel are just gorgeous. As Lexus did in the late 80’s, I believe Genesis will be providing a much needed kick in the *** to MB, BMW, etc., especially when it comes to SUV interiors.

I generally trade every 3-4 years. This will definitely be on my list to consider!!!

I have a similar but smaller screen in our Audi. It screams “cheap” to me-why not integrate it better? I told myself I would get used to it but hate it still after 3 years....will never buy another like it.
It is a nice interior but when it comes to the engine & drive train the Germans are hard to beat.

Hard to beat the Germans, but since most vehicles are leased it probably matters less than ever. As for the design, it's a lot more interesting than the 167's. Take the MB star off the GLE, and it can easily be taken for several makes.

As for engine and drive train, the GLE450 engine is marginally better than Genesis. But bear in mind that Genesis V6 version is priced the same as a GLE350. I'm pretty sure the Genesis' 3.5 twin turbo V6 is superior to Mercedes 2.0 single turbo four cylinder.
To me the German models excel when you go all out and get the best engines, with all the options. Genesis has nothing against an AMG or a GLE 580 with E-ABC. But when it comes to the average GLE350 vs the average Genesis GV80, the average Genesis starts to look pretty compelling with more power, more equipment, more luxuries.

Don’t forgot how they ranked the GLE 7th in the luxury suv segment below the Lexus RX, the GV80, the X5, cayenne, and Land Rover defender!

I think the Genesis is compelling, especially as compared to a $7X,XXX GLE350. Like all of the recent Cadillacs and Lincolns, though, I just can't bring myself to want a Genesis-branded anything. Even the "lowly" GLE350 feels special enough to me that I wouldn't cross shop it with the Genesis or any of the US premium brands..

Even Autoweek became lame in recent years. I kind of inherited an Autoweek subscription after Competition Press faded. Where's David E. when we need him?
No reflection on Genesis, though.

I rate Motor Trend as Second Worst auto review source, behind only Consumer Reports.
