Winter tires

For those in the market for Winter tires, Pirelli currently has a $70 rebate on a set: https://promo.pirelli.com/tyres/en-U...-2020/overview

Here’s a new Michelin tire that resembles the Pilot Alpin 5 but is all seasons with a Winter rating. Designed for Mercedes in Europe with some larger sizes showing now. Not yet GLE sizes but maybe soon. I hope these show on my 53 but probably not. The concept is a tire that truly works All Season. They are speed rated W.
This size fits our Audi SQ5 so I might be giving them a test.

CROSSCLIMATE SUV - SIZE: 255/45ZR20

Also Costco has discounts on Bridgestone & Michelin-Nov 20 at $150 off. Beats Tire Rack & Discount Tire on some I checked today.

This year the shortage of tires due to COVID. Couldn’t get Blizzak DM-V2 in 275/50-20 or Michelin X-ice. Was going for Michelin Alpin 5 but seen mix reviews. So I step up size 285/50-20. On the way to tire shop crack my windshield on the highway. Should have just stay home Friday 13.

I don’t know about Canada but around here there is up to 1/2” gravel mixed with the sand. I hate to take a road trip in winter.

Whats the mixed review on the Michelin PA 5 SUV? I’m told that they replace the Xi2 and love mine. Didn’t get them on Black Ice last year but they are as good or better than the Xi2 on our Audi in snow and hard pack. Quieter for sure, the rest is hard to tell for sure since on different cars and driven at different times.

I love Michelin also, all my car for summer time are Michelins. Alpin 5 is for sure significant improvement from X-ice and Xi2.

I might be wrong but according to couple online reviews for example alltyretests.com, it pretty much rank in the middle on wet/dry/snow braking handling. But it does get the best wear and last the longest. I really want to go with Alpin 5 but it’s about 580CAD a piece compare to blizzak DM-V2 360CAD. We do not get so much snow here in Vancouver and I don’t do too much highway. I gave up waiting for 275/50-20 which were all out of stock.

side note taking the 21” rear 315 width wheels off will break your back. I will get someone to help me next time.

I didn't get real snow/ice use with mine last year - this may be different. They are very good on dry/wet pavement, though.

Taking them off is not the problem, putting back on might be. Need to get some of these mounting pins for that: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post7870042

Might be worth a trip into the US to a Costco. They have a $150 off set of 4 on Michelin 11-20 to 11-30-2020. That should put the Alpin under $300 if you are mounting them on 20” wheels. Tire Rack might ship to CA. Don’t know how much your VAT adds to that.

You can go to Discount Tire to price match so don’t even need a Costco membership, just a price quote.

I usually order tires from states, but the travel restriction. Hopefully when summer time comes around I can head down WA again.

Definitely a must have. It's nearly difficult to reinstall a big tire without two of these. One helps but introduces yet another balancing act.
Get two - your pants and shoes will thank you.

Thanks for the link.

If you're talking about ReverseLogic, Fred's email is on the card in my photo.

2020 GLE 350 4Matic / Night Package / Premium Package / 21" Wheels
For Sale: 20" AMG 5-twin spoke aero (night package)

UPDATE - the wheels are sold; tires are still available.

UPDATE 2 - the tires are also sold. (Sold Aug. 30, 2021) - thanks everybody for looking!

Hello!

First, my apologies if I put this in the wrong spot..!

If anyone is interested in getting a set of AMG wheels for a 20/21 GLE-350/450, I have a set of factory take-offs that need a loving home. I got my GLE with the 21" AMG Multispoke, and purchased the 20" wheels to use as my winters. They had winter tires mounted (also available...), and they were on the vehicle for about 160 miles - then COVID & Spring came, and I put the 21" back on again.

If anyone could be so kind and direct me where I could post this, I would be extremely thankful! (PS - asking $1,600USD... obo - includes MB TPMS sensors & center caps)

Thanks, and apologies again if I posted this in the wrong place.
