Fuel door alignment?

Fuel door alignment?
Is it just me or are there a lot of GLE’s with fuel doors that don’t seem to close flush. I’ve looked a lot a lot of the pictures online, and GLE’s I’ve seen in the world. It seems like this is the norm. Is there any way to align the door so it closes flush? Or am I just being extra picky?

Mine use to be like that. They replaced it. It is still not perfect but not nearly as bad as it was. The replacement is a complete door and mechanism that will need to be painted. Seems like it should be a quick fix but it wasn't.

Mine isn't as bad as the picture, but it isn't perfect either. I am not bothered enough to have the dealer do anything - and I am not sure in my case that they don't break something else fixing it. BigDon - they definitely should fix that.

I had the same problem ... and it also "fixed itself".
:-)
Turns out that if the fuel door sticks out like the first picture, then the rubber lanyard that secures the fuel cap, got stuck in between the fuel door inside and the top of the fuel cap. It's very tight and that pushes out the fuel door.
Once you move the rubber lanyard out of the way and around the fuel cap, the door closes flush (or at least a lot better).
That's what it was on mine.

I am not sure if the photos I've taken of my GLE are deceiving me, but in some pictures it looks like it's sticking out like OP's and in some it looks like it's sitting flat. I'm going to check mine when I pick it up this week from the dealership (knock sensor being replaced).

I had the same thing and they managed to make some adjustment before I drove off, but as others have mentioned, it seems to have gotten better after i had it and it is now fully flush. I did inspect 5 other GLE's at the dealer the day I picked up and they all had that slightly misaligned door. I'm not saying it's acceptable, but they managed to make it better before I left without replacing a part.

i have a 2021 GLS and noticed the same issue - the fuel door doesn't sit quite flush. i'm going to double check it when i get the car back from the detailer. it doesn't bother me enough to want it replaced (esp after i get the car paint corrected/ceramic coatedº but i wouldn't mind having it adjusted if possible.

CMFUSA is right. My 3/21 built 450 has the same issue. I checked and yes the lanyard is bend and it’s stuck between door and door hinge. Straighten it and place it away from the hinge, problem solved. Maybe that’s why some say it fixed itself over time. Thank you.

I had the the same issue and the dealer said they didn’t see anything wrong. I removed my fuel door and found that the clip that holds the door on the arm was bent to hell. I ended up buying some 3M double sided tape and trippled up the thickness and carefully reinstalled sliding it back on. Problem solved. I can’t believe I had to do something like this on a Mercedes.

Been humid lately in LA. So I’m blaming the humid since it swells everything up. Woke up this morning to go put gas and found gas door panel half sticking out. Used to be flush the last 4 months checked inside door panel nothing caught up.
