It requires the Camera available with option DA2-Driver Assistance. Then 21U should be available unless they ran out of a part like the different USB setup.

You have it in your GLE53?

My dealer says it's available on the GLE350,450 and the 580 but not on the GLE53W4.

It wasn't available until after my order locked. I checked to see if it could be added later only to find the wiring is different. It was an option for the GLE 53 in Oct 2020, my SA pulled it up on Netstar.

I am asking for help from other owners contacting Mercedes-Benz.

OP is being told that 21U is not an available option on the GLE 53. September or October 2020 it came up as available but that doesn’t mean it actually was. There were questions about other options like the heated steering wheel so the Dealer NetStar system might have been incorrect. Mercedes has had trouble getting all the order pieces correct and up to date as new models are introduced. Options are different by Country and component availability could lead to some mistakes that get sorted out at the factory.

Good Morning, I have also been trying to work out why this feature isn’t showing as an option, so contacted Mercedes me connect to find out. They have advised that a software update is required here in the UK to enable the feature if you don’t have it already. My local dealership has confirmed this and it will have to go in for the update. Once installed I am told it is an available option and can be purchased through Mercedes’ me. This may be vehicle specific for the GLE and mine is a 2021 model and has all the hardware required, but the update is called the Fresh-up 3 Software update. I hope this helps, we will wait and see if it works!

I have a 2021 model with the Augmented Reality feature on the navigation, and on my Mercedes Me app is has a feature where you can purchase the Cam option....its grayed out my dealer said as they do not have a payment mechanism yet. Coming soon.

I could activate my Dash Cam yesterday, but still have a question, do I need to start recording every time I start driving?
