Seemed cool, but I think the engineers got too carried away with their own toys and decided the new stuff meant they could do away with the cornering light capability. I think they got this one wrong, personally.
Why don't we get the curve light function? This would help alleviate the need for the corner lights.

So I have Adaptive High Beam/Advanced light package on my 2020 GLE. This week I took my car in for Service and was given a 2021 GLC loaner that I was able to drive at night. It also had adaptive high beam assist.

I noticed the following differences:
(1) The lights on my GLE are brighter, and throw light wider and farther down the road than the ones on the GLC
(2) The lights on the GLC did have a turning side light that would illuminate when turning left or right, the ones on my GLE do not.
(3) The LED beams on the GLC did steer slightly when going around curves, I haven't realy noticed that with the LEDs lights on my GLE.

That said, I still prefer the lights on my GLE. When on high beam the light cast is wider and illuminates farther down the road that the GLC.

My 2 cents for what it's worth.

I was thinking about this today and remembered that there is a light sweep when you start the car. Just checked mine and they appear to move side to side at start up. The side sweep would be far enough to act as a cornering light.

I'm sorry to bring this back to life. I'm trying to get clarity, the standard GLE LED headlights, not the multi beam, will or will not corner illuminate? I'm finding it harder to find all the options I want on a CPO and I'm not sure if holding out for the upgraded lighting is really worth it.

What I'm understanding is that the standard light is only forward facing with corner illumintino, the upgraded lights supposedly dim around certain things but they too don't corner illuminate.

I really want to have corner illumination similar to my mothers 2018 GLC. Those lights are fantastic! When you try to turn signal on or turn the wheel into a parking spot or driveway illuminates the whole area along with what's in front of the car.

None of the GLE headlight options have the corner illuminate, meaning they do not swivel or turn with the steering wheel, like what is found on other MB models. However, supposedly the GLEs with the lighting package (that come with the multibeam LEDs) are supposed to "bend" the light, but I have not noticed anything on my GLE with the multibeam LEDs and it is barely noticable if that.

Thanks for the clarity. That's a real bummer. There Corner stuff is so nice. Maybe they have adjusted the light pattern so they think they're covering wide enough in the first place that they don't need it to corner illuminate. Who knows...

2022 GLE 450
Had my lights coded, among other things, by RJA last week on '22 GLE450 - They did a great job. However, I am quite disappointed in MB for not including articulating cornering lights. This is isn't new technology, and from what I am reading in the forum, other models do have it. A great big thumbs down to whomever decided to leave it out.

Having voiced my opinion, it does appear that there might actually be a lens inside the black grill; although rather small - see below. Took photos from a couple of different angles and it appears the same; therefore, I don't believe it is a reflection. Perhaps someone can find one in a junk yard and get a better look. None available by me.

I agree. The main reason why I ordered the lighting package on my 21 GLE 350 was because it said it had the active curve lighting or whatever the description said it was, basically saying it had the cornering lights. After the order was locked, then I found out the lighting package actually did not come with the cornering lights. It was a bummer but at least the headlights look nice physically compared to the standard headlights. Subtle but noticeable.

If you didn't get them coded by someone like RJ Automotive, then you will not see any added benefit from them. Definitely worth getting it done. Not going to help much with cornering, but the rest is amazingly cool.

There is a "good" animation posted at #4 and a video at #9 showing what the lights should do if you get them coded (enable software).

I think the way the cornering lights is positioned on the main headlight is the issue. There is a US regulation on cornering lights to not be above a certain height, and definitely the GLE on this generation and previous generation has the cornering lights deleted since the headlight sits above the regulation threshold I'd assume. This is probably the reason why my folks X3 G01 has it but the GLE V167 does not, since the X3 sits much lower.

No sorry Ron I beg to differ. I've driven the V167 with MultiBeam LED overseas with all its capability along with cornering lights, and you can literally look out the side window and have the entire side illuminated perpendicular to the front bumper. Not the case when I got back to my US GLE. Here's a picture I took with my own phone, along with the amber rear blinker they got:

You can clearly see the lens that is plugged on US bound GLE's, plus they don't have the side amber markers.

I should have taken some pictures of the GLEs I saw in Greece while I was there.

But I agree, the "wide" range of the US spec multibeam headlights are NOT satisfactory to act as cornering lights. There is a "S" style turn in my neighborhood that is pitch black at night because the cheapos do not want to put their lights on. A cornering light would light that area up no problem (like my 2003 Grand Marquis used to do), but the "wide" rage of the multibeam headlights do not light it up until the car is already turned into the first turn. If I am not careful, someone will have been run over by the time the wide headlights would illuminate someone walking or biking on that turn.

I also took some pictures of our W166 ML250 with Intelligent Light System (the previous version of MultiBeam LED) with cornering lights, and I just realized W166 in the US also had their corner lights plugged according to Greg's picture above.

Here's what I have:

Experimented with the lights on, without blinker (cornering light off):

Blinker on, cornering light on:

You can make out the glare from the lit cornering light on the bottom corner.

From MBUSA website.....

Building a GLE: No mention of cornering lights.

VS. Building a GLA with Active LED

Unfortunately, looks like discussion is over!!! NO CORNERING lamps in GLE. Could have been added to lower bumper/fender if there is a height restriction.

At least in California cornering lights cannot be lower than 12".

When I first ordered my 2021 GLE the build sheet had "DA4 Exterior lighting Package: LED Intelligent Light System, Adaptiv" and under that it had 608 adaptive highbeam assist and also "640 Active LED Headlamps with Active Curve Illumination". On the website it said it had the cornering lights at the time under the lighting package at the time. When the car arrived MB changed it to the LED intelligent w/ Ultrawide high beams and took out the cornering lights on the configurator and whatnot. Kind of crappy since the active curve illumination is barely noticable, I even brought it in because I could not notice anything at night, but they said it was normal.

I will say I do not believe there is a height restriction because the Volvo XC90 has the cornering lights and the headlights actually turn for the corners and it sits at the same height as the GLE.

The XC90 uses the fog light as the cornering light, not a lens embedded in the headlights, and that's how they got by since the fog light is mounted on the lower bumper. Also the same with the E70 era X5. Another example is my brother's C7 A6 where the cornering light is a lens embedded in the headlight but that sedan sits lower than SUV's.

Finally experienced the high beam "Curve" around a bend. I was excited to see it actually work; but no comparison to adaptive lights that turn.

I was able to get a better photo of the section that some of us believe is where the cornering light should be. It now appears to be a solid plug - see below.

Bottom line, MB sold the U.S. market something that they will not allow us to use; either due to U.S. law, or different hardware. Either way, we didn't get what we paid for.

Usually good LED lamps are rated for a color temperature of 5000-6000K - the most versatile, natural light that suits most drivers. Among the popular options for warm light are diodes with a temperature of 4000 + K, which makes you sacrifice the brightness of the lamp in many ways. The main purpose of buying lamps with a warm glow temperature is to create comfortable driving conditions in rain and fog, so that too bright color does not reflect off the road. For the salon, the widespread smart bulb, which has an rgb model in itself, and your salon can be illuminated in any color you want.

My Intelligent Lights seem to show the inside of the corner better than the older swivelling lights AND they continue to illuminate the outside of the corner. Maybe you're missing the broader coverage.

Regarding cornering lights, I didn't expect to get them, because they were never shown as included with the intelligent lighting package.
I miss them, but switching on the fog lights can help.

Did you see something actually showing that they were included in the US cars? I missed it.

No, didn't see any statements to that affect. I did however ask my salesman, and he said they did. He also said run flats were standard but the was inaccurate as well. Furthermore, I ***-umed it would be standard by now, as my last 2 non-MB vehicles had them. So, my bad. Also, when I select the Intelligent Lighting option in settings, it displays a short graphic of the headlights turning. I will have to take a video when I get back to my GLE. and post it here.

Although I made some assumptions and received bad info from dealer, I still didn't get (IMO) what was described by MB on the build sheet - see # 63 above. Works much better now, thanks to RJA.

As far as Fog lights are concerned, my '22 GLE 450 has none; with the exception of one rear light. Something else that I was surprised/disappointed to see. I might have to add them on. It wasn't easy ordering a vehicle sight unseen. I had the '21 to go by, and asked salesman plenty of questions, but nothing beats hands on.

As you can see in the following video, when selecting ILS from settings, it displays a short graphic showing the headlights turning as the front wheels turn. Sorry too old for a YOUTUBE account - LOL

My bad. I was thinking of another car we've had, that lowers the cutoff and widens the intelligent lighting, kind of like fake fog lights. Macan, I think.

You're right, there's no front Fogs with the intelligent lighting system on a 450.

Corner Lights

Yes, to my surprise- not only is it disappointing not to have the corner lights, but it actually is a feature that should be mandatory as at night it is hard to see. I have a loner cla220 which has it and it makes a difference. My Benz is in for the 3ed time at the dealer, this time for cooling heating zone issue (I ordered the 4 way zone for each passenger) as when you turn the back on the front turns off and all the nonsense - the other 2 times were for a seat that got jammed and last which was 1 week ago the parking break stopped working and a calliper was leaking. 120k In canada gle 450 2022 with 4000 km and it acts like a used car. This is my 3ed Benz and boy did the quality ever go down. I will call tomorrow and find out about the lights.
