Hot Mics?

I noticed that both of the mics above the front and passenger seat are always on. If you rub a finger across them or tap you hear it in the rear speakers. Is this supposed to be like that?

.
There's a feature for Voice Amplification so that rear passengers can better hear the front passenger/driver. I assume that's what you're noticing. From the 2020 GLE manual:

Switching voice amplification to the rear on/off (vehicles with long wheelbase)
Requirements:
* Your vehicle is equipped with the Burmester® surround sound system or the Burmester® high-end 3D surround sound system.
* The ignition is switched on.
* Doors, side windows and the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel are closed.
* At least one seat belt is fastened on the rear bench seat.

Multimedia system: Settings -> System -> Audio -> Voice Amplification

The function supports communication between the driver and front passenger with passengers in the rear compartment. When voice amplification to the rear is activated, the signals picked up by the microphone are amplified and played back over the speakers in the rear compartment, depending upon vehicle noise levels. An automatic adjustment occurs based on speaker volume and ambient noise in order to improve speech intelligibility and maintain the naturalness of speech.

I have a second row seatbelt buckled with the dog harness all the time, and I was wondering why I could hear myself in the rear audio. Now I know.

Mine is also on with the no rear seat buckled. Another (maybe related?) question. There also appear to be mics above the rear seats. What are they for?

Didn't even know I had this option until I saw this thread. Any Canadian owners of the 2020 GLE 450 model confirm they can access this? I have the Burmester audio system but do not get any menu option for Voice Amplification even with a rear seat belt buckled up
